Our Island Coast Support Services Network (ICSSN) meeting will be on Wednesday the 28^th June 2023.

Our Guest speakers will be:

Ken Laza Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advanced Health Worker with Community Area Mental Health Service based in Innisfail

Ken was the Clinic Manager, Clinic Coordinator Babinda and Tully, Recovery Support Worker (post Cyclone Yasi) and A & TSI Health Worker with Mamu Health Service Limited

Cassowary Area Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is part of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) and provides Mental Health Services from Fishery Falls in the North and Bilyana in the South and West to Palmerston in Tropical North Queensland. Service provided includes Assessments, Case Management, Treatment Interventions and Consultation with a Health Promotion and Recovery focus.

Both Child and Youth and Adult Mental Health Services are provided by a multidisciplinary Team including Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy and Indigenous Mental Health Worker.

The purpose of Ken’s role is to improve Health outcomes by ensuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are engaged and consulted in the development and delivery of person centred culturally safe Mental Health services.

Also we will have Cat Uta giving a brief overview of VSU (volatile substance use) training and more about VSU including effects and how to respond.
