From The Principal's Desk
Dear Parents, Staff and Students
We had a wonderful week of celebration last week for Catholic Education Week. Students participated in various activities and we had a well attended morning tea on Wednesday. It was lovely to have so many parents, grandparents and great grandparents join us in our Heart of St Clare’s garden.
Docemus Primary Teacher Award
Last Friday night all nominees and school staff were invited to attend the Docemus Awards Evening in Cairns. St Clare’s School had a number of staff attend to support Chris Edwards who was nominated this year. The news that Chris was the recipient of the Primary Teacher Award for 2019 was well received and staff of St Clare’s are proud of her achievements over the years. Please go to the following link to the Catholic Education page to see all Docemus recipients for 2019.

St. Clare’s Feast Celebration on Aug 16
A parentslip was sent out to all parents this morning (please check emails). Please respond to these promptly so staff can finalise arrangements for next Friday. We look forward to a fun day out commencing with mass at Holy Spirit Church at Wongaling Beach. We hope many family members are able to join us!!!
2020 Fee Schedule
You will find further in the newsletter a letter from Bill Dixon, Executive Director of Catholic Education Services, outlining information about the fee schedule for 2020. Once our levies have been confirmed a fee structure for 2020 will be sent to all families in term four.
Feast of the Assumption
Next Thursday, August 15, is the Feast of the Assumption. The Church celebrates the glorious Assumption of Mary into heaven. It is a feast of her destiny of fullness and blessedness. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin's passing into eternal life, it is the most important of all Marian feasts and a Holy Day of Obligation. Please check the parish bulletin for mass times.
Use of Social Media by parents
Parents and carers are advised to ensure their involvement and communication through social media is consistent with the Parent and Volunteer Code of Conduct. The use of messenger groups should be for the positive benefit of the group members and the school/students/staff only. Seeking of information should always be through the official school means firstly (newsletter, facebook, skoolbag, email/speak to teachers). Staff and parents are encouraged to build positive relationships that benefit all children in our school. It saddens me that there have been a few instances recently where a group has been used for ‘negative chat’. There should also be appropriate moderators in each group.
Best wishes for the week ahead and we hope you can join us for our Feast day next Friday at Wongaling Beach.
Narelle Harney
