Sport Updates

Peninsula Trials – 10-12yrs Basketball

Ruby Wilson, Dean Giardina and Chace Crema represented our school and district at the Peninsula 10-12yrs Boys and Girls’ Basketball Trials yesterday at Cairns.  Ruby played in the Tropic Coast North team which remained undefeated for the day while Dean and Chace played in the Cassowary Coast Boys’ team achieving very close scores against very tough competitions.  Well done Ruby, Dean & Chace!

Cross Country

Our Cross Country will be held this Friday 5th April which is our last day of school.  We will start with our 12yr old students at around 9 am and work our way down each age group of boys and girls to our 5yr old students.  This format allows our older students, running a considerable distance, to compete at a cooler time while also giving our younger students an opportunity to settle in and watch a couple of races before their turn.

12yr (2007) and 11yr (2008) students run approx 3km.

10yr (2009) and 9yr (2010) students run approx 2km.

8yr (2011) and 7yr (2012) students run approx 1km.

6yr (2013) and 5yr (2014) students run approx 500m.

Students wear a Woomera (yellow) or Cooby (blue) shirt along with shorts or tights.  Shoes must be worn while running.  Asthmatics are required to carry medication in a pocket.  Sunscreen and hats must be worn.  A towel, spare clothes/shoes, a plastic bag and mosquito repellent are recommended, particularly if the weather is wet.

Usually the running is finished at around 11am and we go to the Montefalco for presentations.

Children placing 1st-3rd comfortably, will be invited to compete at the Cassowary Coast School Sport Cross Country at Warrina Lakes on 9th May 2019.

Athletics

Our St. Clare’s Athletics’ Carnival will take place on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd May.  Thursday’s events will commence with the 200m heats at 11:20am and move on to 2 field event rotations before concluding with the 400m (8yrs) and 800m (9-12yr) events.

Friday’s events will include the 200m finals, sprints, relays, 3 x field event rotations and conclude with ball-games.

A detailed program will be sent out in the coming weeks.

Children aged 9-12yrs can qualify for the CCSS-Southern Zone Track & Field events on Wednesday 22nd May (after school @ TSHS) and Friday 24th May (full day at LTSS).

Thankyou to Parents

We have had a huge term of sport and would like to thank our wonderful parents for all the fantastic support given to our students by providing transport, volunteering in canteens, running water, coaching, managing, setting up and packing down.  We are very fortunate to have such a great school community and hope that families enjoy their time with us at sporting events.
