Remembrance Day

We will celebrate Remembrance Day tomorrow. It was first observed in 1919 throughout the British Commonwealth. It was originally called “Armistice Day” to commemorate armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.—on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Many Australians stop what they are doing at exactly 11am in their local times on November 11 each year to dedicate a minute of silence for those who died in war, especially soldiers from as far back as World War I. Many people wear artificial poppies on the day in remembrance of the nation’s fallen heroes. We pray for all those who have died in war or as a result of conflict. We also pray for service men and women who are currently on active duty. May they return safely at the conclusion of their deployment.

All classes at St Clare’s will participate in a prayer for Remembrance Day tomorrow.  They will place poppies in their prayer space as a symbol of remembering those who have lost their lives.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC stands for ‘National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day Observance Committee’. NAIDOC Week is a celebration held every year and lasts for one week. It is usually held in July but due to COVID, it is being celebrated this week. NAIDOC week is when we celebrate the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Aboriginal culture should be celebrated, respected and acknowledged. It also shows that Australians from all cultures can live together peacefully and celebrate the heritage of Australia.
