Dear Parents, Staff and Students
Last Friday we had students participate in the Cassowary Coast 10-12yrs Cross Country. Congratulations to all students for a tremendous effort on the day with outstanding overall results! Thank you to all parents who assisted with transport for our students and to those who supported from the sidelines.
NAPLAN testing this week
Parents and carers of Year 3 and Year 5 students are reminded that students will be completing 2021 NAPLAN Online assessments this week on Tuesday 11th, Wednesday 12th and Friday 14th. Testing will be done in an online environment for all tests apart from the Yr 3 Writing. Make up tests for students who are absent will be organised as needed. Please ensure students arrive at school on time on these days and avoid making appointments where possible.
There is always a lot of discussion about NAPLAN in the media. An important fact to remember is that it is a ‘one-off test’ and students are prepared for this through their classroom learning experiences. We must also remember not to put unnecessary pressure on children as their wellbeing is important and we must work together to support this.
One way to support your child during NAPLAN is ensuring that they are well rested. There has been a lot of research recently into the implications of not getting enough sleep and the impact this has on our health. It is difficult sometimes in the busyness of family life to maintain good bedtime routines for our children and indeed ourselves. May we all get the rest we need so that we can fully flourish with energy and vitality to live our best lives!
Sacramental Program
We extend a blessing on all the children with our school and Parish community who are preparing for their Sacraments. These important rituals confirm the formal faith journey that was begun at Baptism. We thank Tania Gilbert, Sacramental Coordinator, and Fr Joby Jose for their leadership with the families and children.
Staff Update
A letter was emailed to all families yesterday advising that I have been appointed as Acting Principal of St Francis Xavier School in Manunda for the remainder of the school year. I do not have a set start date yet but anticipate it will be in 3-4 weeks’ time. As many of you know I have a long association with St Clare’s and this decision was made with great deliberation. I am confident that St Clare’s has a comprehensive plan for 2021 and that great things will continue to happen at this amazing school.
Next week I will be in Cairns from Wednesday 19th to Friday 21st for the Term 2 Principal Conference. Please contact Helen Andrews for any school matters during these few days.
Please pray for Fr Joby who has injured his foot and currently on crutches. We pray for his healing in coming weeks.
