Heart of St. Clare’s Icon Blessing
Last Friday, Fr. Joby blessed our new Heart of St. Clare’s sculpture. This new addition was designed and created by the very talented Garry O’Kane, a former student of our school. We sincerely thank Garry for the time he put into this piece and we are sure it will be a symbol of our namesake to enjoy for many years to come.
Remembrance Day
We will celebrate Remembrance Day on Thursday. It was first observed in 1919 throughout the British Commonwealth. It was originally called “Armistice Day” to commemorate armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.—on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Many Australians stop w
hat they are doing at exactly 11am in their local times on November 11 each year to dedicate a minute of silence for those who died in war, especially soldiers from as far back as World War I. Many people wear artificial poppies on the day in remembrance of the nation’s fallen heroes. We pray for all those who have died in war or as a result of conflict. We also pray for service men and women who are currently on active duty. May they return safely at the conclusion of their deployment.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
St Clare’s is once again supporting the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. We are asking children to bring in non-perishable, long lasting items that will be put towards making up hampers for less fortunate people in our community. Each class has been asked to bring in specific items up until the end of term. This is an opportunity to teach our children about the gift of giving and all donations are greatly appreciated.
