Dear St. Clare’s Community,
We are already in Week 4 of the term, and with everything we have on this term it is sure to continue racing by. I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy some sunshine over the long weekend. Congratulations to all the students that had entries in various show competitions. As I wandered around the displays I saw a large number of St. Clare’s students' names with commendations and prizes. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Wall for putting together our Show Display with the students during Art lessons and for working so hard to put the display up at the showgrounds with help from Mrs Colombini. It looked fantastic!
This Friday we have a visit from the Circus, with a whole school show followed by some workshops. This Wednesday Year 6 are heading off to Tully State High School for the day with Mrs Jenkins and next week Year 6 are off to Paluma Educational Centre for their camp.
Thanks very much to those families who have downloaded the MyCE App. The App is a great way for families to notify the school of absences and access report cards. If you haven’t tried it yet, please visit the App Store or Google Play to download to your device.
A had a great visit from Laurence last week. Laurence was sent to the Principal’s Office so that I could see the work he has been doing in writing. A great effort in adding description to writing to engage the reader. Well done!
With the Fete not too far off, please take the time to read the Fete News further down in this newsletter. The Fete is a huge undertaking and I sincerely appreciate all those involved in the organisation both in the lead up and on the night. Classes are hard at work putting together their performances and will be very busy with these over the coming weeks.
Blessings for the week ahead.

Catholic Education Week was once again an action packed week. From a Diocesan mass in Cairns for the school captains, a Southern Deanery mass in Innisfail for the Year 5 and 6 classes and a liturgy at St Clare’s Church for our Preps to Year 4s, the celebrations lasted all week. Our Year 5 and 6 children thoroughly enjoyed their taster sessions at Good Counsel College, experiencing LOTE, HPE, Food Technology and Design Technology, just to name a few classes. The highlight of the week, across the diocese, was welcoming Andrew Chinn into each school to conduct workshops and entertain the students with his musical talent.
After a much awaited period of time and many diocesan prayers, a new bishop has been appointed to the Cairns Diocese. Reverend Joe Caddy will be ordained at St Monica’s Cathedral in Cairns on Thursday August 15 at 6pm. Due to extremely limited seating, each parish and school has been offered a small number of seats to attend the mass in Cairns. To allow for full parish participation, the ordination will be live streamed from a number of locations, including St Clare’s Church in Tully. Please refer to the letter attached to this newsletter for up to date information from the Diocese of Cairns.
Mary Mackillop’s Feast Day falls on next Thursday August 8. As Australia’s first patron saint, a significant part of Mary’s life was spent founding schools for the poor and underprivileged (with the support of Fr Julian Tenison-Woods). Mary’s life did not always run smoothly, and she was ex-communicated at one point after a misunderstanding. In the face of opposition, Mary stayed true to her beliefs and held steadfast in her forgiveness during this trial and was eventually reinstated. It was in 2010 that she was canonised by Pope Benedict XVI. As the only Australian saint, Mary’s Feast Day is an important day in the Catholic Church calendar.

Mindfulness
Working on mindfulness gives us opportunities to develop our ability to pay attention to the present moment and our thoughts. Practising mindfulness daily can help us stay focused on set tasks and reduce stress and anxiety.
Whole Family Activity:
Mindful Walk
- As a family, go on a walk outside in nature. This might be around your local walking track, at your local park or just around your streets.
- While walking, tune into your senses and observe what you can see, hear and feel. Or you might choose to focus on one of the senses. Eg: Hear: what are all the noises you can hear on your walk?
- On your way home or when you return home, share what each person saw, heard or felt.
Family Habit Builder:
Each night at dinner, ask everyone to take one mouthful of food more mindfully than the rest and think about the flavours they can taste and how it makes them feel. (They can also thank the chef!).
District Athletics
Last week, over 40 of our students competed in the Southern Zone Cassowary Coast Athletics Carnival. There were many outstanding results over the 2 days of events, especially when St Clare’s was named the Relay Winners AND Overall Winning School!
Special mention goes to our Age Champions - Billy, Nina, Layla and Brody.
Information for those children who have qualified to attend the Peninsula trials for Track and Field will be sent out this week.

FETE RIDES
Pre-purchase of tickets for rides at the Fete are on now! There will be 3 rides this year: a Super Slide, a massive Jurassic Park jumping castle and Bungee Run, so something for everyone!
There will be 3 one hour sessions available with unlimited rides. Wristbands can be purchased for either a one hour time slot or for the entire 3 hours. These rides will be supervised by staff from Barrier Reef Jumping Castles to ensure children get the most turns possible during their time slot. Staff from St. Clare’s will also be on hand to sell wristbands and monitor each session.
Sessions will be $20 per hour, or all 3 hours for $50. There will be a limited number of wristbands sold for each session. The session from 7-8pm is filling fast, so you may want to choose one of the other sessions to make the most of the time available. An order form for wristband pre-purchase has been sent home and will be cash only. Order forms can be returned in an envelope with the correct money and wristbands will be available for collection from the office. A Seesaw message will be sent when your wristbands are ready for collection. Lost wristbands will not be replaced and are the responsibility of the purchaser once collected.
Wristbands will also be available for purchase after Assembly in Week 7 & 9 or any Tuesday afternoon Week 3-7 between 2 - 2:50 pm from Mrs Burzacott’s office (just walk down the verandah). If you want to wait and see what the rides look like, limited tickets will be available on the night of the Fete. If you need any further information email Karran principal.tully@cns.catholic.edu.au.
