Dear St. Clare’s Community,
We are now halfway through our first term of 2025. It has already been jam packed and we look forward to all the learning and activities throughout the final five weeks of term. We have had a few new students start with us, which is very exciting. As expected, St. Clare’s students have been very welcoming and kind.
It is with sadness that I inform you that I have received Luke Mason’s resignation from his grounds and maintenance role. Luke has been such an asset with his extensive knowledge and skills of all things hands on. We thank Luke for his time at St. Clare’s and wish him the best for his future endeavours. Luke’s last day with us will be Friday 14th March. The process to find a replacement will begin immediately.
Communication between home and school is such an important part of us working together in your child's learning journey. We have many ways in which we communicate with each other, and they all serve a different purpose. For any student absences please use the My CE App or ring the office. For other time sensitive matters, such as bus changes and early pickups for appointments, please ring the office.
Seesaw is a wonderful platform for teachers to share work in the classroom and the message and announcement functions can be very useful. Please be mindful that teachers do not check messages while teaching and often do not get to messages and emails until the end of the day. Likewise, teachers are not expected to check and respond to messages once they are home with their families.
This Newsletter is another way we communicate and comes out fortnightly. The sign on Mars St. has upcoming events and reminders and is updated weekly. We also promote the great things happening at St. Clare’s on our Facebook page. If you don’t already follow us, please do, as information is shared through this platform.
Photos
A reminder that any photos taken by parents & carers, at school events, such as Assembly, Sports Days and Free Dress, can only include your own children. Do not share/post any photos that contain students other than your own.
Volunteer Training
Have you completed volunteer training? All parents assisting with sport training, tuckshop, sport days, transport, excursions, classroom assistance etc need to complete the training found on the Catholic Education website. Go to: https://www.cns.catholic.edu.au/our-school-communities/parent-engagement/volunteer-training/
Stop Drop Go Zone
The congestion of cars waiting to get into our Stop, Drop, Go Zone is making it very unsafe for all road users including students who walk across the road at the crossing. Cars are being backed up to the corner and buses are unable to pass. We kindly ask that if the zone is full, please drive around and try again. Please do not queue on the road waiting to get into the zone.
If your child requires help to get into their seatbelt or to close the door, please park elsewhere and walk in to get them. Parents are asked not to get out of their car in the Stop, Drop, Go Zone.
Children in Years 2 - 6 are released on the 2nd bell at 3pm. If you are early for pick up, please wait for students in another area. Parking in the zone is causing congestion and is not allowing cars to move through the zone in a timely manner.
We ask that you pass this information to any grandparents, family members or friends who may also pick up students.
Thank you for helping us keep our students and families safe.
Blessing for the weeks ahead,
Karran Burzacott
Faith Knowledge Community Respect
Tomorrow will see the beginning of Lent, which will be acknowledged through our Ash Wednesday Mass. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting (abstaining from things we enjoy) and almsgiving (serving others), whilst preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. Our Year 6 Stewardship teams will be taking the time during Lent to practice almsgiving through holding events to fundraise for the annual Project Compassion Appeal.
Project CompassionProject Compassion is a fundraising event, organised through Caritas, which runs throughout Australian schools and parishes over the course of Lent. This year’s theme of ‘Unite Against Poverty This Lent’ offers us the opportunity to understand the living challenges that many others face across the world and raise funds to assist in making a difference to those who are vulnerable. This is a great opportunity for our school community to also learn about the importance of the Principles of Catholic Social Teachings. Fundraising kicked off yesterday with our Pancake Breakfast - thanks to those who were able to support this. Students will also bring home a money box on Ash Wednesday, in which they can donate their small change and then add it to their class money box.
With Blessings,

NAPLAN
Year 3 and 5 successfully completed a practice NAPLAN test last Friday that allowed them to become familiar with all the features of the online platform. A reminder that students require headphones for NAPLAN testing. These must not be bluetooth as they are not compatible with the NAPLAN locked down browser.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Term 1 interviews will take place during Week 9 of this term. Login information for the online booking platform called “Booked” will be sent home next week.

Hello parents, students and colleagues
What is “Zones of Regulation”?
The Zones of Regulation Programme is a framework designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control. It was developed by Leah Kuypers in 2011 (OT/autism specialist in America).
How does it work?
It groups emotions into 4 Zones; Blue, Green, Yellow and Red and teaches us to recognise how we are feeling and what we can do in each zone to help deal with our emotions in an acceptable way. There are no bad zones but operating in the green zone is preferable. People may move through the zones during the course of their day.
Why use “Zones of Regulation”?
If we teach our children “good” coping and self-regulation skills, they can help themselves when they become anxious, sad or stressed. Teaching our children about using helpful strategies when they are in a calm state will give them the tools to deal with overwhelming emotions when they occur.
Who benefits from Zones of Regulation?
We all benefit by being able to recognise our emotions, what triggers certain emotions in us and what we can do to regulate our emotions. Although this is written for your child at home and at school, you may find the strategies will work for adults as well.
Tools that can assist
Blue zone- Stretch
Green zone- Drink water
Yellow zone- Deep breaths
Red Zone- Take a break
Everyone will have a specific tool to assist regulation that suits them so it is preferable to speak with your child and find out what tool can work for them.
Kind regards,
Sharon Scouller

The students represented us with pride in their chosen sports and demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and skills throughout the day. A special thank you must go to our parents who assisted with coaching, washing jerseys and cheering on our teams. Our boys also trialled for Netball after school last week with more success for our St Clare’s students.
Congratulations to the following children who were selected in the Southern Zone teams:
Netball - Shiloh, Quinn & Evie (shadow), Kade, Eddie, Kace, Declan, Henry (shadow)
11 years League - Billy, Warrick, Tarique, Maddison, Billy, Nash
12 years League - Nate, Kade, Noah, Eddie, Finn, Jaxon
Cross Country
Our preparation for Cross Country is well underway with lap running on the oval happening most mornings from 8.20am. This is a great way for our students to build up their fitness levels before the big event on Friday March 21 and the improvement is already evident in those who are keen to run the whole way. House spirit is alive and thriving on these mornings!

Touch Football Carnival – Thursday 3rd April 2025
On Thursday 3rd April, St Clare's is hosting the annual Touch Football Carnival held at Tully State High School. St Clare’s caters for this event that sees all the local schools in the district compete. The carnival is open to Year 4 to Year 6 Students.
This is a great fundraiser for the P & F and we are looking forward to getting in and raising some money for our school, BUT we need YOUR HELP. I am sending this note to all year levels. Even if you do not have a child playing, you may still like to volunteer some time to help, which we would appreciate.
The P & F executive have asked me to run a roster looking for helpers to fill time slots. At this stage, I am looking for helpers to work for 30mins and if you could do two time slots that would be even better. We are happy to work the roster so we can watch our children compete. If I get an overwhelming number of helpers, you may only have to help for 1 shift. I do not have a draw for the day yet, but children play more than one game, so if you are rostered on while your child is playing, they will be playing again that day.
All that is involved is serving food and drinks. I will be on for most of the day, so I would be looking at another two to three helpers per shift with lunchtime shifts, needing four helpers. Those who send back notes first get preference on the time slot that they have chosen. If I fill a slot I will put you down for the next available time.
We will be looking for donations of cupcakes and slices on the day.
PLEASE RETURN FORMS TO THE OFFICE BY Friday 15th March as then I will be able to put the roster together.
Thank You
Marie Vipiana

If you have a child born between 1/7/2020 and 30/6/2021, your child is eligible to start Prep in 2026. Please go to our website to complete an online enrolment - https://www.stclares.qld.edu.au/enrolling/enrolment-application/. We already have a number of students registered for 2026 and do not want to see any of our existing families miss out.
One of the communication platforms that we will continue to use is the MyCE app. Important school announcements will be sent out through this platform so please ensure that you have downloaded the app, check that you are logged in and have the notifications set to on.
For those who still use SZapp for absentees and messages you will no longer be able to do it through the app.
Absentees and messages are now done through the MyCE app.
Thankyou
