Dear St. Clare’s Community,
Welcome to the midpoint of Term 2. As always, the weeks fly by in a flurry of learning and fun.
A huge thank you needs to go to the staff and students in Prep, Year 1 & Year 2. What a fabulous Under 8’s Day! To take part in such an enriching day is truly special for our younger years students. The way in which students thoughtfully engaged in each activity was outstanding. Thanks to all the staff that sparked the curiosity of our young learners on the day. Particular thanks and acknowledgement needs to be given to Mrs Baston and Mrs Marsilio for organising such a great day.
Read to Me Day – Exciting Update!
As you may be aware, we recently shared the disappointing news that St Clare’s would not be participating in Read to Me Day this year due to a clash in our school calendar. Prior to that announcement, we explored every possible option to find a solution, but unfortunately, we initially couldn’t make it work within our already busy schedule.
However, we’re delighted to share that after ongoing discussions, some careful reshuffling, and an unexpected opportunity, we’ve found a way to make it happen!
Read to Me Day will now go ahead for our Prep, Year 1, and Year 2 students on Tuesday 17th June.
This means that Week 9 will be a very full and exciting week for our students, staff, and families:
- Monday 16th June – Athletics Carnival Day 1
- 8–12 year olds: 8:45am – 2:00pm
- 5–7 year olds: 10:00am – 1:30pm
- 8–12 year olds: 8:45am – 2:00pm
- Tuesday 17th June – Read to Me Day
- Prep, Year 1 & Year 2: approx. 9:00am – 12:00pm
- Prep, Year 1 & Year 2: approx. 9:00am – 12:00pm
- Thursday 19th June – Athletics Carnival Day 2
- 8–12 year olds: 8:45am – 2:50pm
- 5–7 year olds: 8:45am – 12:30pm
- 8–12 year olds: 8:45am – 2:50pm
- Friday 20th June – Whole School Athletics Assembly
- 8:45 am – 9:30 am: Presentations and Captains' Speeches
We understand that this will be a very busy week for everyone, and we sincerely appreciate your support and understanding. Our teachers will be working hard to make the most of the limited classroom time available, especially as we approach the end of term and focus on finalising learning and assessments. With that in mind, we kindly ask for your help in ensuring your child is at school every day during Week 9. If your child is unwell and unable to participate in the scheduled events, unfortunately we won’t be able to offer alternative arrangements due to time constraints and staffing availability. We know these changes may not suit everyone, but we truly believe this adjusted schedule provides the best opportunity for our students to enjoy a rich and balanced week of learning and celebration.
2025 Feedback Surveys
Yesterday you would have received an email inviting you to take part in the 2025 Feedback Survey. This survey allows schools to gather important and useful information to inform future planning.
We estimate that the survey will take 20 – 30 minutes to complete. All surveys are anonymous. Your feedback is appreciated and I encourage you to take part in this survey.
School Photo Day is Monday 2nd June
We ask that all students come to school in their full Academic Uniforms please, as per the Uniform Requirements. This includes white ankle socks and black shoes. Hair is to be worn off the face and long hair is to be tied back. Hair accessories are to be school colours only. Earrings are to be studs or sleepers.
School Jumpers
With some slightly cooler weather, we are seeing more jumpers making an appearance at school. Can you please ensure that your child's name is clearly marked on their school jumper. We always seem to end up with a huge pile in lost property at the end of each year. A reminder that school jumpers must be all over plain navy blue with no branding or images.
Queensland Day - Free Dress
Friday June 6th is Queensland Day! Students are invited to come in free dress representing Queensland. This may be anything celebrating Queensland, tropical or maroon outfits are welcomed. Please remember all clothing needs to be sunsmart and practical for a day at school, closed in shoes must also be worn.
Junior Playground
After considerable delays due to the weather and staffing issues for the installer, we are keeping everything crossed that the replacement structure in the Junior Years play area will start next week. This has been a long time coming, so hopefully the weather remains on our side so that students can enjoy a great new play element very generously funded by the P&F.
FEELING UNWELL?
While we want to see all students attend school everyday there are times when students are too unwell to do so. If your child is unwell or has flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms, they must not come to school. Students staying home when sick are likely to have a positive impact on attendance levels, as a reduced incidence of an illness in the school translates into a reduced likelihood of other students and staff being away sick. Please help us to keep the spread of coughs, colds, viruses & flu to a minimum and keep students at home when needed. We are currently experiencing a spike in Influenza and Covid in the Tully area.
SENT TO THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
Check out these wonderful smiles! So great to see the amazing work the fantastic teachers of St. Clare’s are doing with students. Even better, is the way in which students are striving to do their best and the effort they put into learning.
Blessing for the weeks ahead,
Karran Burzacott
Faith Knowledge Community Respect
Our Sacramental Program is well underway with 18 children participating this year. These children will be attending Mass at St Clare’s Church this Saturday (May 31) at 6pm to receive their cross and recite the Apostles’ Creed. On Sunday June 15 at 9am, the children will then participate in their Confirmation and receive their First Eucharist. Our school community is most welcome to attend.

AI Chat Bots and Companions
AI chatbots and companions designed to simulate personal relationships are growing in popularity, but they pose some very serious risks – especially to children and young people. Find out how to help keep kids safe by reading the informative article that the eSafety Commissioner has put together here.
