Dear Parents, Staff and Students
Welcome to the 2020 school year! I look forward to another successful year for our students and staff at St. Clare’s School. All classes have had a wonderful first week of school and students are happy to be back with their peers. Our Prep students have had a fantastic start and should be congratulated on their ability to ease so well into school life.
A warm greeting to all new families and current families. We also welcome new staff: Stuart Russell (HPE teacher) and Jodie Costa (Cleaner)
Opening School Mass
This Thursday February 6th we will have a whole school mass to signify the beginning of the school year. All parents and friends are welcome to join us in the Church for the 9:00am mass.
Meet and Greet Evening – Feb 11th
Next Week, on Tuesday February 11th, we will be hosting our Parent Student Teacher “Meet and Greet Evening”. This will be held between the hours of 5:30pm and 6:30pm. Students are invited to bring their parents into their classrooms to meet their teacher/s and to show them some work they have been doing since commencing school. There will be important documentation for each family to take home from each class. Parents will have ample time to visit all classrooms with their children and can visit at any time during the hour timeframe. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher about any important issues please make an appointment with them at another time.
Please return forms promptly
During the next few weeks there will be important letters/forms sent home that will require parents to complete information regarding permissions, volunteering and transport. Your cooperation in actioning these within a few days will enable us to finalise our important administrative tasks. It is always best to complete forms straight away so they are not forgotten. Many of these forms will be sent through the Parent Slips straight to your email. Simply click on the link and fill out the online form. Thank you in anticipation!
PE Days and Uniform requirements
Students are required to wear their PE/Sports Uniform on Wednesday and Friday in 2020.
Please remember that black shoes are required with our academic uniform (There should be no visible white anywhere on these shoes).
Keeping in Touch
A reminder that we have a school facebook page that will be used for sharing our achievements, reminders, upcoming events etc. Go to https://www.facebook.com/stclarestully
We will also still be using the Skoolbag App to send out messages to parents. Download the app from the app store and connect to St. Clare’s. Make sure you change your preference settings to the year levels your children are in 2020 in case there are specific messages sent out to year levels.
Important Safety Reminders
School/Parish Car Park
Children must not walk through the car park area unless accompanied by an adult. Parents must meet children at the ramp to walk them to the car. Do not call your children to your car as this is unsafe for children. Please also note that children need to be accompanied by an adult when crossing Mars Street. Staff will not let children cross Mars St to a parked car on the opposite side of the school.
No U Turn in Mars St
The street in front of the two schools in Mars Street has signs that indicate u-turns are prohibited. Please adhere to this as it is for the safety of everyone.
May the Grace of God be with you all as we begin our new school year,
Narelle Harney
Principal
Welcome Community Hospitality
We warmly welcome our school community to our 2020 school year. We would also like to welcome families who are joining our school community this year. You are all very welcome at St Clare’s.
We extend an invitation to all families and friends to join us in celebrating our Opening Mass this Thursday, 6th February at 9am in St Clare’s Church. An important part of our opening Mass will be pledges from student leaders, staff and parents.
This year we will continue our school greeting inspired by the Gospel verse 1 Peter 4:10; ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s Grace in its various forms’. Students will greet staff, parents and visitors to the school with ‘Good morning/afternoon …., May the Grace of God be with you’.

Catholic School Fee Discount for 2020
Dear Parents/Carers
In 2020 Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Cairns will provide a discount on tuition fees for holders of means-tested Health Care and Pensioner Concession Cards.
The discount applies to tuition fees only and not to school levies and charges.
This year a discount of 70% on tuition fees will apply to holders of eligible cards.
The cards must be current and list as dependents, the students for whom the discount is sought.
Parents and carers should now present their eligible card to the school office for verification. The office secretary will make a copy and provide a Health Care Card Tuition Fee Discount Scheme Form for the Parent/Carer to complete. The fee discount will then be applied to tuition fees on future term invoices for the 2020 year.
For families with children at other Cairns Catholic Schools; this process will be repeated for each school. The discount arrangement will expire on the expiry date of the card or at the end of the school year.
Parents/Carers receiving the discount have a duty to inform the school of any renewal or change in eligibility cards.
Families seeking a discount on tuition fees must visit the school office to verify and copy their Heath Care/Pension Concession Card and complete the Health Care Card Tuition Fee Discount Scheme Form no later than this Thursday, 31st January in order for the discount to be applied to Term 1 school fees.
