Dear Parents, Staff and Students
Yesterday morning we had a whole school reconciliation led by Fr Hilary. We are very proud of our students and the reverence they are showing at our liturgies and masses this year.
Thank you to all parents who attended last night’s AGM. I look forward to a successful partnership with all parents during 2020, with our students being at the core of what we do here at St Clare’s. Please see the P & F news for further details about the P & F Executive.
School Annual Implementation Plan
Each year we have key focus areas of improvement and the following are our two SMART goals for 2020:
1. By the end of the year, 100% of teachers will use data to explicitly focus on the teaching and learning of writing using effective and responsive practices. This will be evidenced in planning, PLT's and consultation with key support staff.
2. In 2020, staff will work collaboratively on further developing Catholic Identity and the RE Curriculum at St Clare’s School, using recommendations by KU Leuven in the St Clare’s ECSI annotated report. By the end of Term 2, the staff will develop a 3 year strategic plan for Catholic Identity.
Teaching staff will continue to work towards these goals during the year with dedicated staff meetings and Professional Learning that support growth in these areas.
Prep Enrolments for 2021
It seems early to be discussing enrolments for 2021 BUT if you have a child born between 1/7/2015 and 30/6/2016, your child is eligible to start Prep in 2021. Please go to our website to complete an online enrolment - https://www.stclares.qld.edu.au/enrolling/enrolment-application/. Interviews will commence in Term 2.
Staffing Update
Due to our confirmation of enrolments we now have the capacity to employ further assistance in the classroom. We have a 12 hour/week (3 days x 4 hours) School Officer position available beginning in Week 6. Applications close next Tuesday Feb 25th. To access the application package please go to:
https://www.cns.catholic.edu.au/employment/current-positions/non-teaching-positions/
We have also readvertised out Indigenous Liaison Officer position. This is for one day (6 hours) per week and is an identified position. Please spread the word to anyone who is Indigenous that may be interested. This position will also be in the local paper this week. Applications for ILO close on Friday Feb 28th.
We look forward to welcoming back Mrs Temara Giuliany next week. Temara is one of our School Officers who is studying to be a teacher. She has been doing a teaching practicum during the first four weeks of term.
May the Grace of God be with you and your families in the coming week,
Narelle Harney

Ash Wednesday Mass – Combined Parish and Whole School Mass at 10am
Next Wednesday, 26th February sees the commencement of the Lenten session with Ash Wednesday. We call it Ash Wednesday because many Christians around the world receive a cross of ashes on their foreheads. God’s people have used this sign for hundreds of years. This cross of ashes tells friends and neighbours that we are not perfect and that we know we are not perfect. With God’s help we can try to be faithful followers of Jesus who show by our words and actions what is really important to us. Even when we feel hopeless, God is there, loving us and giving us strength and courage. (Sourced from Liturgy Ritual Prayer.com)
Other significant dates in term 1 include:
Wednesday 4th March – Fr. Hilary’s 80 Birthday
Wednesday 4th March - Year 6 Caritas Just Leadership Day (hosting the Southern Deanery schools at St Clare’s)
Wednesday, 17th March – St Patrick’s Day (green slushie fundraiser for Project Compassion)
Thursday, 18th March – Multicultural Day (further information to come)
May the Grace of God be with you,
Kath Kennedy

Through great effort and maximum participation St. Clare’s won the overall champion school in the Cassowary Coast for 2020. We are so proud of every swimmers’ efforts as all earned points to win that honour.
Congratulations to three of our students who were awarded age-champion.

We have designed and implemented new award certificates for assemblies in line with our Positive Relationships Plan, which is currently in draft format and being modelled throughout the school.
The three new awards are titled:
Social & Emotional Learning Award
St Clare’s Way Award
Academic Award
The Social & Emotional Learning Award is awarded to students who demonstrate capacity to integrate skills, attitudes, and behaviours to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges.
The St Clare’s Way Award is awarded to students who model our school charism of Welcome, Community and Hospitality, living out Jesus’ values of love, respect, trust and faith and promoting positive relationships, characterised by care, justice and friendship.
The Academic Award is awarded to students who demonstrate capacity in learning across the curriculum.
The new awards have been in place since the start of Term 1, 2020. Each week, teachers nominate two students to receive an award.
We have had a fabulous start to 2020 in the Tuckshop. Thank you to everyone for your support.
Thank you to all those parents who have volunteered to help or bake this year. I have had an overwhelming response to bakers, this is great. If you haven’t received a roster this term you will definitely be rostered on next term as I have 10 weeks to fill. It’s not too late to still volunteer, we really need more helpers to come in once a term to help in the tuckshop. If you can, please let me know on 0418 158 872.
Next Monday the 24th February I will be sending out a tuckshop menu with a couple of changes JUST FOR FRIDAY THE 29TH FEBRUARY. Our older children will be competing in Netball/Rugby League Carnival and it is easier for helpers in the tuckshop to have just one menu to fill for the day.
Finally, All orders are to be in on a THURSDAY, if for some reason you have forgotten to send your child’s order in on a Thursday, and you are sending it in on Friday morning, PLEASE DON’T ORDER FLAVOURED MILK, as milks are ordered on a Thursday after the orders are counted.
Thank You Marie
