Dear Parents and Carers,
This week is Wellbeing Week, a time to refresh as a family with no written homework. Take some time to do something as a family.
Many of our rooms in B Block are looking quite bare. Our Prep and Yr 1 classes have relocated to their new spaces. The children are excited by the change and are settled in their rooms already. Thank you to the parents who have assisted in the past week or so with moving items from these rooms to their new spaces. Our staff will finalise emptying these rooms ready for demolition in the upcoming holidays. The tender for this project is still being finalised.
Thank you to the men who came along last Thursday to assist with moving our P & F items from the Animal shed to a storage container. Your help is much appreciated!
Semester One Reporting
This year has been an extraordinary year with regards to the delivery of curriculum to our students. St Clare’s staff worked extremely hard to provide continuance of learning and we acknowledge that it has been a different experience for all students over the past few months. A lot of this has been out of our control due to COVID-19 restrictions; therefore we need to adjust our reporting for this semester accordingly.
Catholic Education Services for the Diocese of Cairns, the legal Educational Authority for all Catholic schools and colleges in the Diocese, has released guidelines for Semester 1 2020 reporting.
Consistent with these guidelines, St Clare’s Semester One reports will reflect the following:
- Be briefer and will show an indicative mark only on content covered in English, Mathematics and Religious Education. Each year level has also identified two other curriculum areas to report on so every report will only show five curriculum areas for which we can make a fair and indicative assessment of achievement.
- Each curriculum area will have a mark for effort
- There will be no comments on the reports
- All reports will contain the following comment: This modified Semester Report relates to a period when the educational program was disrupted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. The results are indicative in nature and are based on reduced assessment opportunities
Uniform reminders
We have had some cool morning recently. Please ensure your child wears appropriate warm clothes as per our uniform policy. The policy states:
Plain NAVY jumper, zip style or navy pullover. NAVY track pants or navy/black leggings are permissible on cold mornings. A plain blue jumper is also appropriate.
I have also noticed a few students wearing incorrect shoes with their academic uniform. Black leather shoes with black laces or Black jogger style shoe with black laces or Velcro are the uniform. Girls may wear the Mary-Jane style shoe. (Shoes must be fully black without coloured soles or stripes etc)
Best wishes to everyone for the week ahead

Trinity Sunday, 7th June 2020
Over recent weeks, we have celebrated the Ascension and Pentecost. Both celebrations reveal something about the nature of God through Jesus and the Spirit. Last Sunday, the Feast of the Holy Trinity was celebrated. In the readings, we heard that God made us in God’s image. We are like God in many ways, but we are not God. We are called to mirror God in the way we act, speak and live our lives. Let us pray today that we are open in mind, heart and spirit to the presence of God in our lives so that we show to others something of what God is like.
Gracious and loving God, we celebrate all that you are.
Through your Son, Jesus, you showed us that God is love, peace and forgiveness. God is full of compassion, justice and truth. God is tenderness, gentleness and comfort. We pray that we strive to mirror these qualities in the way we treat others so that our relationships are enriched by your presence in our lives. We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, your Son. Amen.
We welcome the month of June and invite our school community to join in praying for the Pope’s intentions for the challenges of humanity and mission of the Church at the website link https://clicktopray.org/
May the Grace of God be with you,
Kath Kennedy
