Dear Parents and Carers,
We are nearly at the end of the first semester of the 2020 school year. It is a time that will always be marked in history and we have all experienced life in a very different way. Life has changed as we know it and the community of togetherness that has been evident during this time is something we need to hold on to. As a school community we value each person and what they mean to us. Thank you again to all students, parents and staff for all that you do for and with us at St Clare’s. Enjoy some well deserved rest during the holidays.
Prep 2021
I have commenced interviews with future prep students for our 2021 class. These interviews will continue into Term Three and our transition program will be in Term Four. We do still have space in the class for next year so spread the word if you know anyone who has a child born between 1/7/2015 and 30/6/2016.
Building project
Our building project will commence next week with Block B being demolished. We should all notice a difference when we return after our two week break. Please DO NOT enter the school premises during the holiday period. We will also have fencing within the school that will clearly define areas that are within the building zone.
ALL children will need to enter through the small gate at the back of the church in the morning when being dropped off for all of Semester Two. Pick up will be in our normal area of the Admin verandah unless advised otherwise.
COVID-19 update
With regards to COVID-19 restrictions for the beginning of Term 3, at this stage we will need to continue parent drop-off and pick up arrangements. Our 2:50pm pick up for Prep, Yr 1 and siblings will continue until further notice. I will email the school community at the commencement of term three with any further notable changes. We do hope to commence student activities and having volunteers for tuckshop and classroom assistance, however, EVERY PERSON that enters the school MUST sign in at the office. Parents are not able to wander in due to COVID-19 requirements of contact tracing. Thank you for your co-operation regarding these restrictions.
Update on Gretta and Matt
Our school community, parish and the wider local community have been praying for two special young people this year. The photo below of Gretta and Matt shows how far they have both come throughout months of treatment/therapy and we love their happy smiles. It is wonderful that these two families have been able to connect and support each other whilst in Brisbane.
Gretta Berge has been attending rehab in Brisbane and is looking forward to returning to Mission Beach next week with her mum Jane. Gretta and her family are very appreciative of the prayerful support she has received and we are all so happy with her ongoing improvement.
Matt Porter has been living with his family in Brisbane and attending hospital when needed for treatment. He will continue with this for another few months and we hope he can return home to Tully later this year. Matt is a little fighter and has loved receiving parcels from school to brighten his day. The Porter family are also grateful of the prayerful support for Matt during his sickness.
Both Gretta and Matt are champions and we continue to keep them in our prayers over coming months. We ask our Lord to give them improved health, love and guidance through their journey.
Best wishes to everyone for the week ahead and enjoy the winter holiday break!

LITURGIES AND MASSES IN TERM 3
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions still in place, we are currently unable to have more than 100 people in the church and therefore will not be able to celebrate whole school Masses until otherwise notified.
In Term 3 we are organising a number of Liturgies for Catholic Education Week in Week 3. There will be a Prep to Year 3 Liturgy, as well as a Year 4 to Year 6 Liturgy for staff and students only, in view of number restrictions. We will also prepare for a St Clare’s Feast Mass on Monday, 17th August and will let you know further details at the beginning of next term.
SUNDAY READINGS – READ AT HOME
As there are still no weekend Masses in the Parish, the following link is useful to keep up with the Sunday readings, commentaries and prayers:
Another useful link is a link I included in the Week 8 newsletter, inviting you to join in praying for the Pope’s intentions for the challenges of humanity and mission of the Church at the website link https://clicktopray.org/
I will continue to forward the Tully and Silkwood Parish Bulletin, as I have done in recent weeks to our school families. May you all enjoy a happy, safe and restful school break.
A Prayer Blessing...
When evil darkens our world, give us light.
When despair numbs our souls, give us hope.
When we stumble and fall, lift us up.
When doubts assail us, give us faith.
When nothing seems sure, give us trust.
When ideals fade, give us vision.
When we lose our way, be our guide!
That we may find serenity in Your presence,
and purpose in doing Your will.
Amen.

You can contact the school office 40659550 or email the principal with any concerns.
Thank you.
Firstly Thank You to everyone who ordered Tuckshop in week 8, it was lovely to see the smiles on the children’s faces having Tuckshop back. Thank you also to the staff that helped out serving.
We have all missed Tuckshop and our fingers are crossed that if restrictions are lifted that Tuckshop will commence in week 3 of Term 3. If you would like to help out once a Term on a Friday from 8.30 to 12pm or you would like to bake once a Term please let me know and I can add you to the roster.
