Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Yr 5 students are currently away at camp at Daradgee Environmental Camp. I spent yesterday afternoon and evening with the students. I had the pleasure of being there for the talent show last night. They have had a fantastic first day at camp and will enjoy the next two days filled with physical and mental challenges.
Student Wellbeing Survey
In coming week’s our students will complete a wellbeing survey. This has been done for the past few years. Results from the survey will enable us to better understand how we can support our students in their wellbeing and mental health. If you have any concerns about your child participating in the survey please contact your child’s teacher.
Student Learning
As we are now into the fourth week of Term 3 your children will be well into new work for this term. I encourage and invite you to ask your children some leading questions so you may engage with what they are learning:
What are they learning?
How are they going? and How do they know?
What do they do if they need help?
COVID update
We are slowly returning to our normal practices with regards to having parents able to return to the school site for events. As with most places in our community the practice of physical distancing is important for all adults. Please continue to do this especially during afternoon pick up times. Any parents coming on site for tuckshop or meetings must sign in at the office before entering the school grounds. We will be inviting parents to join us for assembly and other events from Week 6 onwards if the current positive situation in North Queensland continues. Parents will also soon receive information about Parent Teacher interviews around Week 6 /7 of this term.
2021 Planning
We are in the beginning stages of planning for next year. I will be having staffing and budget meetings over coming months and it is always good to know of any changes in enrolment. If your family will not be continuing at St Clare’s in 2021 please advise by emailing principal.tully@cns.catholic.edu.au
2020 Parent Survey
Thank you to all families who responded to our recent survey regarding ‘Learning at home’. Your responses will give us direction should we need to engage in this learning mode again and for our ongoing improvement in delivery of curriculum for our students.
Sick children
As per Catholic Education Services directive, please keep sick children (fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough) home from school until they have no more symptoms. Should your child have two or more of the symptoms you may need medical advice as to whether they should be tested. We are all working very hard to keep our school as safe and clean as possible.
Best wishes for the week ahead,
Narelle Harney

Catholic Education Week
We celebrated Catholic Education Week last week with a liturgy for Year 4 to Year 6 on Wednesday and another with Prep to Year 3 on Thursday. It was wonderful to once again have the opportunity to celebrate in St Clare’s Church with Fr Hilary as our presider. Unfortunately, at the moment with COVID regulations we are unable to invite parents and grandparents along to our celebrations. Hopefully, we will be able to return to celebrations with our whole school community in the not too distant future.
Sacramental Program 2020
The parish have advised that there may be a small window of opportunity to still run the Sacramental Program this year. We have sent a letter to our Year 4 families and have advised Year 5 and 6 students who may not have had the opportunity in previous years, to gauge interest in those wishing to making their Sacraments this year. If interested, please contact Tania Gilbert on 0438 173 795 as soon as possible.
Upcoming Catholic Feast Days in August
Thursday, 6TH August – Feast of the Transfiguration. A day to celebrate when Jesus and his friends went up to a high mountain where God spoke to them. In the reading Matthew 9:2-9 Peter says that “it is good to be here.” Let us pray that we remember that being with God anywhere and everywhere in our lives, is good.
Saturday, 8th August – Feast of St Mary of the Cross (MacKillop). Mary was a person who showed complete trust and faith in God. She didn’t worry about what she had because she wanted to focus on the things that really mattered. She loved the poor deeply and believed God would provide. Even when times were very tough. Mary trusted in God.
Saturday, 15th August – Feast of the Assumption of Mary. We celebrate Mary’s passing from this world into the glory of God. Mary was a person of faith and trust who loved her son Jesus, even when he did things she didn’t understand. We pray that we walk in Mary’s shoes and learn to be people of faith and hope willing to trust in God.
Monday, 17th August – Feast of St Clare of Montefalco. Clare was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis (Secular). She was canonized by Pope Leo XIII on December 8, 1881 and importantly, is our school saint. We are in the process of organising some special events to celebrate this special day.

On Friday July 31st, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland and Mrs de Jersey visited Tully.
Ms Harney and our School Captains, Miss Emily Pietrobon and Mr Alex Bradley, were invited to attend the special ceremony held at Tully State School. Thank you to Tully State School Principal, Ms Jennifer Sloane, and their staff and school leaders for preparing and leading the ceremony.
His Excellency addressed the students and later spoke to school leaders from Tully State School, St. Clare’s School and Tully State High School. The three schools prepared tables showing samples of work which the students discussed with both the Governor and Mrs de Jersey. Also present at the ceremony was the Honourable Bob Katter MP, our local Mayor, Cr Mark Nolan, and some of our local Councillors.
Our school captains, Emily and Alex, were great ambassadors of St Clare’s and were given a Governor’s coin from His Excellency.

Hi All
Due to the fact we have no fete this year the P&F have decided to do a cake stall as our fundraiser. The cake stall will be held on Friday 11th September in the main street of Tully (outside MacKay’s office). We will need helpers for our baking days at school, these will be on:
Saturday 8th August @ 9am
Tuesday 11th August @ 9am
Saturday 15th August @ 9am
Many hands make light work so if you can help at any time please let Maria Calleja or Marie Vipiana know what days you are available. We will also need donations to sell at the stall, cakes, slices sweets etc so get thinking of how you can help out this year.
The P&F have just agreed to build a new sports shed, the tender was won by Alan Sultana and work are already underway. This is just another great example of what the P&F can do with the money raised through our fundraising events so keep up all the hard work and dedication.
