From The Acting Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
Dear St Clare’s Community,

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 3.
Well done to everyone last week on school photo day. It was great to see everyone remembered to wear their academic uniforms, so a big thank you to parents!
Year 4 had the opportunity to experience camp at Echo Creek last week and it sounds like everyone had a great time. The busyness of school life continues this week with our Feast Day celebrations on Friday 20th August. We acknowledge the deep commitment and devotion to Christ of St. Clare of Montefalco. Weather permitting we will begin with a Mass at Holy Spirit Church in Mission Beach at 9.30am, followed by activities and a sausage sizzle at Rotary Park. All are welcome to join us for this special day. It is recommended that students bring/wear a waterproof jacket on Friday if they have one.
Thank you
I would like to acknowledge the generosity of the Cassowary Coast River Improvement Trust, who are covering the considerable costs associated with the removal of a very large Milky Pine from the creek bed. This tree needs to be removed as it has several dead branches that may be in danger of falling. The Cassowary Coast River Improvement Trust will remove this tree over the September school holidays and we sincerely thank this organisation for helping make St. Clare’s a safer place for our students. I would also like to acknowledge Bob McIllroy from the Parish for working with the Cassowary Coast River Improvement Trust.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that Friday 3rd September is a Pupil Free Day. All of our staff will be off site that day for professional learning
2022 Student Enrolments
Our 2022 Prep class is looking very full. If you have a child for Prep next year and have not yet contacted the school for an interview, please do so as soon as possible. We now have a waiting list for Prep 2022 and do not want any of our existing families to miss out on joining us. Likewise, if your family will not be continuing at St Clare’s in 2022 please advise by emailing principal.tully@cns.catholic.edu.au
Sincere blessings for the week ahead

Feast of St Clare of Montefalco
Today we celebrate the Feast of St Clare of Montefalco. Clare was born in a town in Italy called Montefalco in 1268. She became a nun and taught the great teachings of St Augustine. St Clare was a humble woman who had a deep faith and love of God. She was deeply devoted to the passion of Christ, and her heart was filled with a love of the Cross. Today, may we become close to her and understand the great love and faith she had in God.
Feast of the Assumption Liturgy
We celebrated the Feast of the Assumption on Sunday 15th August. Mary was born without sin, and remained sinless and dedicated to God throughout her life. At the end of her time on Earth, Mary was taken to Heaven, body and soul. She is often called the Queen of Heaven.
Buddy classes joined together in a prayer liturgy last week to celebrate this important feast day in the life of the church.
Altar Server Roster
Thank you to the students who have put their names down to do Altar serving. Mrs Andrews will be in contact with these students in the next week to organise a training session and roster times.
Waste Free Wednesday
Our ‘Waste Free Wednesday’ is gaining momentum and there is some stiff competition between the year levels to win the coveted Tommy Turtle award. Congratulations to the following classes for winning the Tommy Turtle award this term.
With Faith in our Future,
Helen Andrews

Homework Club
Our first week of Homework Club was a great success, with many students coming along to work on their weekly homework, as well as read aloud to the Year 6 students. Homework club operates from 8am on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students are free to go and play as soon as they have completed their tasks. It’s a great opportunity for younger students to receive help from their school leaders and Ms Moloney. Thanks to all involved.

Book Week
The theme for Book Week this year is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. St. Clare’s will celebrate with a dress up day on Wednesday 25th August and classes will read and complete craft activities based on a selection of the shortlisted books.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge has been running throughout Term 3. Students who complete the challenge (reading 20 books) will receive a certificate from the Premier. Completed sheets can be handed in to classroom teachers or Mrs Edwards. All forms are to be returned by 28 August!

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK 2021
23 to 27 AUGUST, 2021
Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds
Book Week is celebrated each year in August.
This annual event highlights the importance of reading, and
draws on the joy of stories and creativity of Australian Books.
Book Week is about encouraging students to read; to share
favourite writers and illustrators; to look again at old favourite
books in maybe in a different way; to be alone and just read.
The aim for teachers during Book Week is to create an exciting
Environment and the Library using displays that challenge and stimulate
students to enjoy the theme, as well as the books that
are short listed for Book of the Year
The Book of the Year winners will be announced during Children's Book Week
running from 23 to 27 August, 2021.
You are welcome to visit the library to view some of the shortlisted books
