Dear St. Clare’s Community,
Welcome to Term 4! It is hard to believe we are already in the final term of 2024. This term is sure to go quickly, being full of events, activities and learning experiences.

This week is Mental Health Week in Queensland. As a result, we will be focussing on the importance of getting outside and being active to maintain positive mental health. With the assistance of some of our Year 5 and 6 students, we have activities planned for Wednesday to Friday. Please note that the Free Dress Day (wear green) on Friday is not a fundraiser so no monetary donation is required.
The 70th Anniversary of St Gerard’s Mass in Tully will be held on Saturday October 19. We are still seeking volunteers to join the choir for the 2pm mass. If your child is interested, please let me know.
You would be aware that Fr Hilary passed away in early August. Hilary spent many years in Tully as the local parish priest so we will be holding a Memorial Mass to honour him on Tuesday October 22 at 9am. All parish community members are most welcome to attend.
With Blessings,
Term 4 Assemblies
Our Term 3 Star Class winners were the amazing Year 2 students. Last week, they chose to have a class party to celebrate their outstanding behaviour. Congratulations Year 2!
As part of the implementation of MTSS-E, we have recently reviewed our school prayer to reflect our current values. A copy of our new prayer is attached for your reference. Our classes have begun to regularly use this prayer as their morning prayer.
What 3 things do you do to support your mental health?
Here are some self-care tips:
- Get regular exercise. Just 30 minutes of walking every day can boost your mood and improve your health. ...
- Eat healthy, regular meals and stay hydrated. ...
- Make sleep a priority. ...
- Try a relaxing activity. ...
- Set goals and priorities. ...
- Practice gratitude. ...
- Focus on positivity. ...
- Stay connected.
Kind regards,
Sharon Scouller

Jim Graham Cup
On the last Thursday of Term 3, our Year 5/6 Rugby League team travelled to Innisfail to participate in the annual Jim Graham Cup. Through grit and determination, the team progressed to the Grand Final and were narrowly beaten by St Thomas Mareeba (3-2). We are very proud of this amazing achievement.
A special mention goes to Vanora (St Clare’s Player of the Day) and Saxon (Player of the Carnival).
Thank you to Mr Silvestro for giving your time to prepare the team and to our many families who supported us on the day.
Mary Mills Netball Carnival
Congratulations to our 2 mixed teams of Year 5 and 6 students who travelled to Cairns for an action packed day of netball on the last day of Term 3. From all accounts, both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship consistently throughout the day, along with plenty of fun and laughter.
In a tough competition, our Stars team narrowly missed out on the finals, coming second in their pool. The Storm team also had a strong finish, coming 4th in their pool of 8 teams.
Thank you to Mrs S for spending your lunch times preparing the teams for this carnival, and to our dedicated netball players who also showed such enthusiasm at each training session.
A huge thank you to 2 of our past St Clare’s students, Blair and Emily, who came along to umpire for the day and support our teams. We are very grateful for your help!
Finally, a huge thank you to our amazing families who assisted with transport, coaching and scoring on the day. The students wouldn’t have these opportunities without you.
Aquathlon
Trials for the Peninsula Aquathlon team will be held at Trinity Anglican School, White Rock on Sunday November 3. This is open to students 10 - 12 years old and involves a combination of a 1km run, 200m swim and another 1km run. Interested students must nominate by October 14 (please contact Mrs Chappel), and take a Peninsula Student Permission Booklet along with them, signed by the Principal prior to the event.

It seems very early to be discussing enrolments for 2026 BUT if you have a child born between 1/7/2020 and 30/6/2021, your child is eligible to start Prep in 2026. Please go to our website to complete an online enrolment - https://www.stclares.qld.edu.au/enrolling/enrolment-application/. We already have a number of students registered for 2026 and do not want to see any of our existing families miss out.
