Dear St. Clare’s Community,
The Catholic community mourns the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, who died aged 88. Just one day before his death, he offered his final public blessing on Easter Sunday in Saint Peter’s Square.
In memory of the passing of Pope Francis, Bishop Joe Caddy has penned this prayer to share with his people.
“God, faithful rewarder of souls, we humbly come before You in this time of sorrow,
grateful for the gift of Pope Francis, peacemaker, friend to the poor and imprisoned,
and faithful shepherd of Your Church.
We thank You for his faith, compassionate leadership,
and dedication to spreading the Good News of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
We entrust his soul to Your infinite mercy.
Grant him eternal rest in Your heavenly kingdom,
where he may rejoice in the fullness of Your love in the company of all the saints.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.”
Welcome to Term 2!
I hope all families had a wonderful Easter and were able to refresh over the break ready for another wonderful term at school. This term promises to be very busy. Year 4 kicked off the term with an action packed camp to Daradgee. As always, St. Clare’s participated in the ANZAC Day march last week, honouring those that have served with the utmost respect and reverence. Thank you to all students, parents and staff that attended a service over the weekend.
This term also has many sporting events, in particular our Athletics Carnival in Week 9. This year the Carnival days will be Tuesday 17th June and Thursday 19th June. Due to our increasing enrolments and all the events we need to fit into the Athletics Carnival, both of these days will be whole days. Presentations and announcements will be held on Friday 20th June during our usual assembly time at a special Athletics Assembly. This will allow us the time to ensure all events are well run and we have time to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of our students. We hope to have an outline of the events out to families in the next few weeks.
Good luck to all students going to Cassowary Coast or Peninsula trials for different sporting events this term.
Read to me Day
Unfortunately Read to Me Day 2025 clashes with our Athletics Carnival, so St. Clare’s will be unable to attend. While this is disappointing for our Prep - Year 2 students and staff, it is always a challenge for schools to fit in events and days.
Uniform Requirements
As we return from the Easter break, a number of students are attending with haircuts and accessories that do not fit in with the St. Clare's uniform requirements. A reminder that tracks and extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Shoulder length hair, and longer, is to be worn tied back. Hair accessories are to be school colours only. Jewellery is to be minimal, watches and necklaces of Religious or cultural significance are permitted. Earrings are to be studs or sleepers only. We ask that parents please assist us in keeping our standards high.
Sent to the Principal's Office
What a great start to the term! I have already had a number of students visit to share the great work they have done.
Blessing for the weeks ahead,
Karran Burzacott

Andrew Chinn Visit
This year, the Australian Catholic Education Conference will be held in Cairns and as a result, all schools in our diocese will once again be visited by renowned Christian musician, Andrew Chinn. St Clare’s will host Andrew this coming Thursday for a whole school concert at 9.30am. All are welcome to join us.
Sacramental Program
We are getting closer to the commencement of this year’s Sacramental Program, which begins on May 15. It has been wonderful to see so many of our families support their children in completing the first sacrament of baptism, in readiness to continue on their sacramental journey. Detailed information was emailed out to families at the end of last term, please get in touch if you did not receive this.
This semester, our school will be transitioning to a new student academic reporting solution. Named The Learning Dashboard (TLD), the new system will bring some small changes from the look and feel of the current Parent Portal.
Some of the benefits of the new solution include:
- TLD will follow your student across CEDC schools (primary and secondary), enabling you to maintain visibility of academic reports throughout their school years.
- TLD is designed as a web interface rather than a PDF document. This enables an improved viewing experience on all platforms and devices (smart phone, IPad, Laptop).
- The solution also supports the ability to create a PDF copy of the report for your records.
We will be providing you with more information regarding when and how you can access the new report cards over the coming weeks.

Commitment to Student Safety and Wellbeing
St Clare’s Tully is committed to being a safe and nurturing community of care, where the rights and dignity of all children and young people are upheld and protected, and where all students have a right to expect that our school will always act to protect them from any kind of harm.
At St Clare’s Tully concerns or reasonable suspicions, we have about a student’s safety and wellbeing or the behaviour of a staff member or volunteer which a student considers to be inappropriate, will continue to be managed in accordance with our Student Protection processes.
All adults have a responsibility to care for children and young people, to positively promote their welfare, and to protect them from any kind of harm. The interactions of Catholic Education staff with students take place in the context of the employee being in a position of trust arising from the nature of their role.
All of our staff receive annual and ongoing training in the area of child protection. Our Student Protection Processors and Guidelines document can be found by accessing the Cairns Catholic Education Website (www.cns.catholic.edu.au), Student Protection page.
Parents and students should talk to the Student Protection Contacts, Mrs Karran Burzacott, Mrs Sharon Chappel, Mrs Sharon Scouller, or the class teacher if there are any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of any student or concerns about the behaviour of a staff member or volunteer which they feel is inappropriate. We take all reports seriously.
What are Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy? Why these?
- Gratitude is about paying attention to and being thankful for the things we have.
- Empathy is about understanding others’ feelings and perspectives and being kind to others.
- Mindfulness is about bringing our attention to the present moment and being aware of our thoughts, emotions and surroundings.
- Emotional Literacy is about labelling our emotions as we experience them and increasing our emotional vocabulary.
There is a wealth of supporting academic research on the mental and physical benefits of these strategies. More information can be found on the References and reading section of our website.
Is there a best time of day to practise gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy?
These are strategies that can be practised any and every day, at any time of day. If these concepts are new to you, building a routine to practise them can support wellbeing. Picking a time of day–for example, first thing in the morning or after dinner–can be helpful to create a new habit and give structure to your well being journey.
My child has a diagnosed mental illness. Will this interfere with or replace our current support and strategies?
The Resilience Project School Partnership Program is a prevention-based program and will not replace any formal treatment your child may be accessing. The Resilience Project School Partnership Program should not cause any interference with your child's current plan, and in fact, the strategies your child learns will most likely benefit them. However, we would encourage you to let your child's mental health professional know that they are completing the program at school and seek their guidance on this. It would also be helpful if you let your child's teacher know about your child’s plan (if you haven't already) so that the teacher can keep an extra close eye on them.
Touch Football
St Clare’s convened the District Touch Gala Day at the end of last term, and what a great day of sport it was! A special thank you must go to Tully State High School for the use of their fields and for allowing their students (who did a fabulous job) to assist with refereeing all day.
Thank you to the many amazing helpers in our school community who assisted Mrs Jenkins with field set up and organisation of the day, and Mrs Vipiana with baking or helping out in the canteen and of course, our parents who transport and manage teams for our students on the day.
We had 3 superstars who were recognised by referees for their outstanding conduct all day. Well done Andre Russell, Evie Parkes & Stanley Fraser.

All orders are to be placed online via the Flexischools App. Orders will close Friday 16th May at 9am and delivery will be Tuesday 27th May at 2.30pm from the school tuckshop. Order forms went home last week with students, this is a great way of keeping track of who has ordered pies and quantities. Regular reminders will appear in the newsletter and/or Seesaw
