From The Acting Principal's Desk
Dear St Clare's Community,
As we come to the end of Term 3 and look forward to spending some time with family and friends, we reflect on the shared experiences we have been part of this term. Of course, the fete has been a highlight! The time and effort put into bringing an event like the fete together can not be understated. It takes great commitment from our whole community to make these events happen in such a spectacular way. So thank you for anything and everything that you have done:
- Thank you to the staff for preparing the students for their performances
- Thank you to the students for the effort they have put into performing
- Thank you to everyone involved in organising costumes
- Thank you to all our families for the generosity of donations for stalls
- Thank you to the P & F and the Fete Committee for their relentless enthusiasm
- Thank you to all those who volunteered their time baking, shopping, ordering, organising sponsors, wrapping, setting up and helping out on the night
- Thank you parents and families for attending to make the fete so successful
This week some of our Yr 5 & 6 students will compete in the Jim Graham Football in Innisfail on Thursday and the Mary Mills Netball Carnival in Cairns on Friday. We wish our teams all the best for an enjoyable day. Thank you to all parents who are assisting with transport for these events and helping with supporting these teams.
Camps for Year 5 & 6 are both happening in our first week back. Year 6 are heading off to Mungalli on Tuesday - Thursday. And Year 5 are off to Daradgee Wednesday to Friday.
Staffing Updates
This week, Gita Sima and Carla Low are both on Long Service Leave. Kaitlyn Marsilio and Korma Byrne will be teaching in the Prep classroom.
Sadly, we are farewelling Paula Brumley at the end of the week. Paula has been at St. Clare’s this term in a support teacher role. We will miss her guidance and choreography skills immensely as she heads back home to family.
Looking for some help - Fr.O’Connor has left a bequest of furniture to St. Clare’s in his estate. We need to get a timber desk and 6 chairs from his house to the school. We are looking for someone with a ute and a friend that would be willing to collect these items and deliver them to the school. If you are able to assist, can you please contact the office.
Finally, to all staff, students, parents and our community, all the best for the break. I hope the weather shines for us and we have the opportunity to enjoy the amazing backyard we are lucky to have in this part of the world.
Term Four commences on Tuesday October 5th.
Sincerest blessings,
Karran Burzacott
Acting Principal
Welcome Community Hospitality
We have lots to be thankful for being part of the St Clare’s School Community. There have been many examples this term of our school community coming together displaying our school values of Welcome, Community and Hospitality. We are truly blessed to have such a caring and supportive community. Thank you to you all.
St. Clare’s School Prayer
God our creator,
We give praise and thanks for –
our families, our school and parish community and the beauty of our world.
Help us to continue to learn, grow and pray as we spread the flame of faith just as St Clare did.
Let us show Welcome, Community and Hospitality to all who enter our school.
Show us how to make St Clare’s a happy place, where learning is important, and living the way that Jesus taught us is what really counts.
We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

NAIDOC Day
We celebrated NAIDOC Week during Week 8 and the theme for 2021 was Heal Country! Heal our Nation! We commenced our day with a liturgy to reflect and give thanks for our First Nations people for their wisdom and knowledge and their care of the land. For our indigenous people, culture is part of their identity. It is family, kin, law, ceremony, traditions and languages. Through their languages, songs, ceremonies and traditions they celebrate Country and Country speaks to them.
The students rotated around activities learning more about our First Nations people culture and stories. It was a wonderful day with the students displaying enthusiasm and creativity in their creations.
Second Step
A child's social and emotional wellbeing is integral to their overall health, development and wellbeing. Children with high levels of social and emotional wellbeing are more likely to successfully negotiate physical, intellectual and social challenges during childhood and adolescence. At St Clare’s, we use a program called Second Step which is a research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested series of lessons to promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children from prep to Year 6.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Thank you to the families who supported the Winter Appeal this year. Your donations have been given to the Parish and they will distribute them among people in need in the local community.
Tommy Turtle Award
Congratulations to Prep for winning the Tommy Turtle award
With God’s blessings for the September school holidays.

NAPLAN Results
Student reports for those in Year 3 and 5 were sent home to parents last week. This report gives an indication of how students performed in the areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy, while considering the national average and the range of achievement for that year’s cohort across Australia. It is important to note that this report should be reviewed alongside school-based assessments and reports. If parents have any questions or concerns about their child’s NAPLAN report, they should contact their class teacher.
Happy Learning

Fete update No. 8
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
To the students of St Clare’s, thank you so much for the wonderful dancing that your classes put on, everyone put in so much effort and you all should be very proud of yourselves. To those who entered the colouring competition thank you very much and congratulations to the winners. A special thanks to Mrs Korma Byrne for being the judge.
To the Staff of St Clare’s, thank you so much for your dedication and involvement in the 2021 Fete. We are lucky to have such wonderful heads of the school, teachers, school officers and office administration. Thank you also to the staff that helped out on stalls the night of the fete and the setup.
To the parents of St Clare’s, this fete would not have been possible without you. Everyone is part of the P&F, and that is something we all must remember, this showed with all the tremendous help we had before, during and after the fete. Thank you to those parents who gave up so much of their time to help. To our outgoing parents who finish at St Clare’s this year, I know for a fact a lot of you have given so many years of dedication to our school fetes and we will miss you guys next year, but we look forward to seeing new families step up and help out.
To those businesses that donated prizes or cash donations, local and away, thank you so much without your kindness and generosity we would not have been able to have the raffles, auction and 110 prizes in our cent sale. Your sponsorship also helped pay for advertising and other expenses. As a community we must shop local and support those who support us.
Finally, a special mention goes to Jane Berge, the time, effort and dedication that you, Brad and your family have contributed to our school is nothing short of wonderful and we say a HUGE THANK YOU. We will always a have position available if you would like to return as a committee member.
Thank you again,
The 2021 Fete Committee.
