Dear St Clare's Community,
Term 4 is certainly moving quickly as we continue to engage in learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. We have been extremely fortunate to have a number of events already, such as Day for Daniel, Crazy Sock Day and the Melbourne Cup Hat Parade. It is truly beautiful to see students connecting across year levels on these special occasions, that sense of community is part of what makes St. Clare’s such a special place. We have a few more of these opportunities to gather on the horizon, with the Year 6 class organising the mini fete, the swimming carnival (hopefully) and concert and BBQ still to come.
The Official Junior Precinct Opening was held today in recognition of all the effort and work that went into bringing a large scale building project like this to completion. The multitude of decisions and disruptions along the way have been well worth it, as St. Clare’s now has some wonderful new learning spaces and facilities to enjoy for many years to come. We also ‘officially’ farewelled Ms Harney today. It was fantastic to have Ms Harney back for the opening of the building project that she was instrumental in getting off the ground and completed. We wish her all the best in the next stage of her journey, knowing that we are likely to bump into her from time to time around town.
Last week I attended the Principal’s Conference in Cairns, and I sincerely thank Chris Edwards and Sharon Chappel for their support in my absence. The conference is an invaluable opportunity to network and learn from other schools, but also learn more about the future direction of Cairns Catholic Education. Relationships Education was one future direction discussed. We will be hosting a parent information night on Tuesday 16th November @ 5:30 pm. Caitlin Humphrys from Cairns Catholic Education will be presenting this session and I encourage all interested parents to join us. RSVP’s can be sent directly to Caitlyn - chumphrys@cns.catholic.edu.au
Prep Transition
Our Prep 2021 students will attend their final day at St. Clare’s this Wednesday. Thank you to Gita Sima and Pauline Colombini for the wonderful experiences they have given our future prep students over the past 5 weeks. We all look forward to welcoming children back in 2022 to officially start their formal learning journey at St. Clare’s.
School Leaders 2022
Some Yr 5 students are currently preparing their campaign posters and speeches to be presented in Week 8 for School Captain and House Captain positions. Speeches will be presented to the school body on Thursday November 25th. Speeches will begin at 12:00 for School Captains and House Captain speeches will follow as soon as School Captain votes have been cast. Parents of Year 5 students are welcome to join us.
School Fees
Thank you to all families who have made their school fee payment. Please ensure that fees are finalised prior to the end of the term. If you wish to discuss outstanding fees please contact the office to make an appointment.
For those who pay their fees by direct debit or Bpay we appreciate if payments continue over the holidays to ensure there will be no outstanding fees starting 2022.
Blessings for the week ahead,
Karran Burzacott
Principal
Heart of St. Clare’s Icon Blessing
Last Friday, Fr. Joby blessed our new Heart of St. Clare’s sculpture. This new addition was designed and created by the very talented Garry O’Kane, a former student of our school. We sincerely thank Garry for the time he put into this piece and we are sure it will be a symbol of our namesake to enjoy for many years to come.
Remembrance Day
We will celebrate Remembrance Day on Thursday. It was first observed in 1919 throughout the British Commonwealth. It was originally called “Armistice Day” to commemorate armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday, November 11, 1918, at 11 a.m.—on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Many Australians stop what they are doing at exactly 11am in their local times on November 11 each year to dedicate a minute of silence for those who died in war, especially soldiers from as far back as World War I. Many people wear artificial poppies on the day in remembrance of the nation’s fallen heroes. We pray for all those who have died in war or as a result of conflict. We also pray for service men and women who are currently on active duty. May they return safely at the conclusion of their deployment.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
St Clare’s is once again supporting the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. We are asking children to bring in non-perishable, long lasting items that will be put towards making up hampers for less fortunate people in our community. Each class has been asked to bring in specific items up until the end of term. This is an opportunity to teach our children about the gift of giving and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Melbourne Cup Hat Parade
Thank you to all students who participated in the Melbourne Cup Hat Parade. The creativity and originality of some designs was amazing! All students who participated were excited to receive a little treat for their efforts, while one student from each class was given a special commendation for their outstanding design.
Semester 2 Report Cards
Teachers are working hard to have report cards completed by the end of the term. They will be uploaded to the Parent Portal by close of business on Thursday 2nd December. It would be a good time to find your password for the Parent Portal and to ensure you are still able to login. If you have lost your password, please click “Forgotten password” and reset. This usually solves the problem. Any concerns, please email me on cedwards@cns.catholic.edu.au
