Dear St Clare's Community,
Term 4 is certainly flying by in what is an extremely busy term, both with learning and extra-curricular events. We have been extremely fortunate to have a number of events already, such as Day for Daniel, Crazy Sock Day and the Melbourne Cup Hat Parade. It is wonderful to see students and staff connecting on these special occasions, this sense of community is part of what makes St. Clare’s such a special place. We have a few more of these opportunities to gather on the horizon, with the Year 6 class busily organising the mini fete, the swimming carnival and concert and BBQ ahead.

Building Update
The timeline for any works to start on the amenities upgrade, classroom & tuck shop refurbishment will most likely push out to next year. We were hopeful that demolition works would take place over the December break, however that is now unlikely. The project will go to tender soon as details continue to be finalised. We anticipate that the process will begin in Term 1, 2023.
School Leaders 2023
Yr 5 students are currently preparing their speeches and campaign posters to be presented in Week 8 for School Captain and House Captain positions. Speeches will be presented to the school body on Monday November 21st. Speeches will begin at 9:30am for School Captains and House Captain speeches will follow as soon as School Captain votes have been cast. Parents of Year 5 students are welcome to join us.
School Fees
Thank you to all families who have made their school fee payment. Please ensure that fees are finalised prior to the end of the term. If you wish to discuss outstanding fees please contact the office to make an appointment.
For those who pay their fees by direct debit or Bpay we appreciate if payments continue over the holidays to ensure there will be no outstanding fees starting 2023.
Blessings for the week ahead,

Welcome Community Hospitality
What a success our Day for Daniel and Crazy Sock Day turned out to be! Our school raised over $200 which has been donated to Catholic Mission and will go towards their 2022 goal of helping to provide an education to underprivileged children in Ethiopia. As we edge towards the end of the year our final fundraiser, Mini Fete (November 9), will also raise funds to go towards Catholic Mission.
In my final call for generosity for the year, I would like to remind parents of the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. If you are able to donate goods to help make up hampers for underprivileged families in our community, we would be extremely grateful. This is also an opportunity to highlight to our children the notion of giving to those in need, especially around times like Christmas. Collection boxes can be found at the front office and in classrooms for the following items:
Prep – Tinned/packet soup, puddings, cake or pancake mix, custards
Year 1 – Tinned fruits/ meals including spaghetti, baked beans, tuna
Year 2 – Breakfast cereals, pasta, grains (eg. Rice, cous cous, pasta)
Year 3 – Biscuits (sweet or savoury), muesli bars, fruit mince pies
Year 4 – Lollies, candy canes, Christmas cake/pudding, sauces, bon bons
Year 5 – Tinned vegetables & Hygiene products (Shampoo, Soap, Toothbrush, Toothpaste)
Year 6 – Drink (eg. Soft drinks, juice, tea, coffee, long-life milk, cordial)

Australian Curriculum V9
Earlier this year, ACARA released Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum which has seen some significant changes across most learning areas. To align with other schools in the Cairns diocese, St. Clare’s will begin teaching Version 9 of Mathematics and HPE in 2023. Teachers have already undertaken professional development sessions and will continue to plan in preparation for the roll out of these two learning areas at the start of the new school year. Further learning areas will continue to be rolled out each year until full implementation.
Booklists
Booklists are currently being finalised and will be handed out during Week 9. There willbe no Maths text book for students in 2023. Students in Prep - Year 2 will not be using Sound Waves Spelling as we are implementing a new program for Phonics and Spelling. There is no workbook required for this program.
Happy Learning,
Chris Edwards
Lego Robotics
This term, Eden, Christopher, Billy J and Henry have been participating in Lego Robotics challenges using Lego Prime kits. They have been challenged to work with a teammate to follow instructions, build, code and make improvements to their robots. It has been pleasing to see the students using creative thinking, problem solving skills, collaborative learning, brainstorming and using trial and error to make improvements. Congratulations Eden, Christopher, Billy J and Henry on the cool robots you made and also for the persistence you showed in working together to build the robots.
Evie, Blair, Sophie, Ashton, Jonah, William and Amber have worked extremely hard to put together Issue 2 of The Heart. This is the St Clare’s School Magazine. These children display excellent group work skills and passion in their selected area to publish.
A copy of the magazine can be found by clicking on the link “the heart”
It has been an absolute privilege working with all the students that have participated in the Enrichment Program this year. They have motivated me as a teacher and astounded me with their exceptional gifts and talents.

We will be running Tuckshop from the Tully Pool canteen for the swimming carnival. For the younger children that go back over to St Clare’s, their Tuckshop orders will be sent back to school with the teachers.
STUDENT ORDERING ONLY VIA THE FLEXISCHOOLS APP. I will have a small amount of extra food for parents who wish to purchase. Parents can order also via the app if you wish, so you are guaranteed lunch. The menu is different to usual due to the fact that we are off site.
I will be in the kitchen at the pool from 8.30am. If we have lots of helpers we can all get around to watch our children swim. If you can help please let me know.
