Dear St. Clare’s Community,
Week 8 already and that means Wellbeing Week, so no written homework for students this week!
On Thursday we have a team travelling to Cairns to participate in the Readers Cup. Evie, Addisyn, Henry & CC have been spending a lot of time immersing themselves into this year's book selection and we wish them all the best for Thursday. A huge thank you to Mrs Jenkins for preparing these students and organising our team.
The installation of the new fort structure in the Prep playground is finally underway. The main structure is in place. We are now waiting for special sand to be delivered and the curbing to be installed. It then needs to be inspected and signed off by an external inspector. We are hoping our Prep and Year 1 students will get to check it out very soon. A huge thank you to the P&F for very generously approving the funds for this upgrade.
Unfortunately, we recently had a break in at school. The good news is that very little damage was done and it seems nothing was stolen. The matter was reported to police, police attended the school and the matter is now in their hands. While this is a very rare event, it is a timely reminder to ensure we are all doing our part. If you should see any unauthorised people, particularly during the school holidays, please report to School Watch - 131 788. Members of the public are not permitted on school grounds outside of school hours.
Next week is all things Athletics! Let’s hope the sun stays out and dries things out a bit for us. Monday 16th is our first day, followed by the second day on Thursday 19th. An outline of the Carnival has been attached to this newsletter.
Photos
A reminder that any photos taken by parents & carers, at school events, such as Assembly, Sports Days and Free Dress, can only include your own children. Do not share/post any photos that contain students other than your own.
Sent to the Principal’s Office
Over the last two weeks I have been fortunate enough to have a few visitors to my office to show off some of the hard work happening at St. Clare’s. I am constantly blown away by the effort students and their teachers put into their learning. Well done everyone, you are truly the Heart of St. Clare’s and each visit makes my day so very special.
Blessing for the weeks ahead,
Karran Burzacott
Faith Knowledge Community Respect
We have a busy week ahead with our Year 4 children who are participating in this year’s Sacramental Program. This Friday afternoon will see the children receive the sacrament of their First Reconciliation. On Sunday, the children will then receive the sacraments of their First Eucharist and Confirmation. We kindly invite anyone who is a part of our school and parish community to attend this event at 9am in St Clare’s Church. The service will be followed by a morning tea to celebrate this milestone in the children’s faith journey.
This semester, our school will be transitioning to a new student academic reporting solution. All schools in the Cairns Diocese will now be using The Learning Dashboard (TLD) for student reporting. The new system will bring some small changes from the look and feel of the previous SRS Report Cards.
When will reports be available?
Reports will be available for viewing on Wednesday 25th June.
How do I access the new system?
You can access TLD via the Parent Portal or MYCE. Once you have navigated to TLD, you will need to login again using your Parent Portal Credentials.

Understanding your Child’s School Report:
Report cards will provide an overall achievement rating for each Learning Area using a 5-point scale. This is a change from reporting on Strands in English and Maths as in previous reports. It will also include a separate rating for the effort your child has shown in their learning. In addition, students will receive feedback based on our core School Values of Faith, Knowledge, Community and Respect.
To help you better understand how your child is progressing, the report will also include a visual graph showing how their results compare with the rest of their cohort. This gives you a clear picture of your child’s achievements alongside their peers.
As always, if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s report card, please make contact with the class teacher.

One of the things that we love about The Resilience Project at St Clare’s are GEM Chats! GEM Chats are prompted around the idea of expressing examples of Gratitude, Empathy or Mindfulness in our daily life and encourages us to think about what we have to be happy about!
Online safety basics
We can help our children safely navigate the online world by taking some basic steps to reduce the risks.
Our support and guidance can give our children the knowledge to make sound decisions online and the confidence to ask for help when they need it.
Three key strategies
1. Be engaged, open and supportive
Get involved with your child’s online activities as a family. Play games together. Talk about favourite apps, games or websites.
Keep lines of communication open. Ask about their online experiences, who they are talking to and whether they are having any issues.
Reassure your child they can always come to you, no matter what. Your child may not communicate openly about things that worry them online if they fear being in trouble if they tell you. Let them know you will not cut off internet or device access if they tell you they’re feeling uncomfortable or unsafe online.
If you notice a change in your child’s behaviour or mood, talk with them about it. If you are concerned, consider seeking professional help – from your GP, a psychologist or school counsellor.
2. Set some rules
Set rules for devices and online access, with consequences for breaking them. As they grow in online skills and maturity you can review your rules together.
Get your child’s input — this will help them understand risks.
Model behaviour that you would like to see. Children will be more likely to follow rules if they see you doing the same.
Consider creating a family tech agreement (sometimes called a family media plan or family online safety agreement). This is a set of rules about how devices are used in your home as well as what acceptable online behaviour looks like. eSafety has created downloadable templates for families with children under 5 or those with kids aged 5 to 8 years. For families with older children, The Family Online Safety Contract from ThinkUKnow Australia is a good starting point.
3. Use safety features and settings
Get to know the devices you and your children use and set them up for privacy and online safety. Take advantage of parental controls to monitor and control screen time and access to content, based on your child’s age and experience. See our guide to parental controls.
Choose apps and games carefully and visit the App Store or Google Play for age ratings and consumer advice.
Refer to our advice about screen time and online gaming if these are of concern.
The eSafety Guide provides valuable information about the latest games, apps and social media, including how to protect your personal information and report harmful content.
You can visit the Australian Classification Board’s online database, Children and Media Australia and Common Sense Media (US) for information about movies, apps, games and websites, searchable by age.
Please visit the esafety.gov.au site for relevant information based on your child’s age.

Athletics
The countdown is on for our annual Athletics Carnival. A few notable mentions for our parents:
There will be tea and coffee available from the tuckshop between 8.30am and 11.30am. Please feel free to make yourself a cuppa at any time.
Times for all events are approximate and may be postponed or altered due to weather.
At the finale of sprint and relay events, we will be running a Parents relay. Please gather some fellow Woomera and Cooby parents to show the students how it’s done!
Tuckshop will be available on Thursday and must be preordered by Wednesday 10am through the Flexischools app. Parent orders (via the app) are welcome on this day. Additionally, there will be lolly bags and chocolates ($2 each) available for sale on the oval after ball games for those children who would like to bring along some extra change.
Sports Uniform
If anyone has any Cooby or Woomera uniforms (preferably size 10 or larger) they no longer need, please send into the Office as we don't have many spares left. Thank you.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT - Prep 2026 & 2027
If you have a child born between 1/7/2020 and 30/6/2021, your child is eligible to start Prep in 2026.
It seems very early to be discussing enrolments for 2027 BUT if you have a child born between 1/7/2021 and 30/6/2022, your child is eligible to start Prep in 2027.

On behalf of the St Clare's P & F Committee, we would like to sincerely thank Mrs Marie Vipiana for her continued fundraising efforts here at St Clare's. Mrs Vip informed us that the 2025 Pie Drive was the most successful one yet! St Clare's also provided the canteen for the Touch Football Gala Day held at Tully State High School. Again, Mrs Vip coordinated the canteen which was also a huge success.
Shout out to you, Mrs Vip! You're an absolute superstar!
Fete Update:
Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help on the night. We would love to see the roster full by the end of this term. We have listed a quick description of the stalls that still require volunteers as this may give you some indication on where you would like to help on the night.
Hair & Beauty: This is a wonderful addition to our fete that began last year. The ladies in this stall braid hair and add hair extensions to the girls hair, nail painting and temporary tattoos. If this is something that you enjoy doing and would like to help, we would love lots of volunteers as our little girls are loving this new stall. Convenor: Katrina Barratt
Cent Sale: No community loves a Cent Sale more then the folk of Tully. Our cent sale is one of the biggest stalls at the fete. All prizes are 100% donated by local and far away businesses and by the school families (class hampers). We are looking for helpers to sell cent sale tickets on the night between 6pm and 8pm and then we also require helpers when we need to draw the cent sale. This would be roughly between 8.15 to 9.30pm.
Convenor: Jess Giagnori
Please contact a member of the fete committee or the convenor of the stall you would like to help. We only ask that you give an hour of your time on the night. An updated roster is attached.
Thank you, the Fete committee:
Alicia Johnston, Katrina Barratt, Tracy Dore, Emily Probitts, Tammy Clifford, Rhiannon Bilic, Tara Silvestro, Renee Jones and Marisa Wakefield.
