Dear St Clare's Community,

Welcome to Term 4! It is hard to believe we are already in the final term of 2023. This term is sure to go quickly, being only 9 weeks and being full of events, activities and learning experiences.

Water Safety Program

Our water safety program will commence next week (Week 3) and is a 5 week program. Students will go to the Tully Pool on their sports days. For Year 1, 3, 4, 5 & 6 this is Tuesday and for Prep and Year 2 it will be on Thursdays during the program.

Prep Transition

This week we welcome many excited children to our first day of Prep Transition for Prep 2023. We will be running a 5 week program led by Mrs Gita Sima and Mrs Pauline Colombini. We all look forward to getting to know our 2024 prep students as they visit St. Clare’s each week.

Transition Dates for 2024 Prep students are as follows (9-11am):

A parent information session will be held on Tuesday 17th October @ 6pm in the Prep classroom.

Enrolments 2024

While we do not like to see our families leave St. Clare's, we understand that circumstances change and families can relocate and move away. If your child will not be returning to St. Clare's in 2024, please contact the office as soon as possible.

HELP NEEDED!

The P&F hosts our end of year BBQ each year. For the past several years Marie Vipiana has organised this event. The P&F are seeking a parent to work alongsideMarie this year to organise the BBQ and take over the running of it in 2024. This would involve putting an item in the Newsletter to request help on the night and organise a roster for the night, ordering supplies and help setting up on the day.

If you can help, please contact either myself or Marie.

St Gerard Feast Day

The St. Gerard Committee is holding the Feast of St. Gerard Celebrations on Saturday 21st October. The afternoon will begin with a Mass at 2:30pm. Please contact the parish office for further information.

Faith Knowledge Community Respect

Welcome back to Term 4! This term will see one of the students’ favourite events of the year occur - Mini Fete. This event is traditionally organised and run by our senior students, with all funds raised going to Catholic Missions. This year we will be rolling 3 events into one day on Friday October 27 - Day For Daniel (please wear red), Crazy Sock Day for Socktober (add some crazy socks to that red outfit) and Mini Fete (please bring a small amount of money and a bag for your goodies).

The Year 6 class, along with Mrs Marsilio & Mrs Jenkins, are excitedly preparing for their stalls and kindly ask for any donations of the following items:

Sweets and baked goods (eg. lolly bags, fudge, chocolate slice, toffee, cup cakes, watermelon, chocolate crackles, choc-chips, ice-cream toppings, mini marshmallows, tin of Milo, popping candy, maltesers, sprinkles, gummy bears, etc.)
Chocolate bars (all sizes)
Small/fun size popcorn or chip bags
Pre-loved trash and treasure (now is the perfect time to clean out the kids’ rooms!)

If you are able to donate any of the listed items, these can simply be dropped off to the Year 6 classroom before the 27^th of October. If donating any baked goods, these can be dropped off the morning of the Mini Fete.

We are currently looking for children who may be able to assist with altar serving this term. Forms have been sent home with children who have expressed interest in assisting at weekend mass. Please get in touch if you would like further information on how you can assist the parish.

Jim Graham Cup

At the end of last Term a group of Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Innisfail to compete in the annual Jim Graham Cup. The boys had a great day and played hard. A big shout out to Coach Emmi who prepared the boys, giving up his time to run lunchtime training sessions in the lead up to the carnival, as well as leading them at the carnival, along with Mr Clifford and Mr Jesse who also supported the boys on game day. Congratulations to all of the boys involved. You did us proud! Congratulations to Saxon Solien who was named Player of the Day for St. Clare's.

Swimming

Just a reminder that our school Water Safety Program commences next week. All information was provided on Seesaw last week. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me (kmason2@cns.catholic.edu.au).

Date Claimer - Swimming carnival - Friday 24th of November, 2024.

All students participate in our carnival and our swim program staff spend lots of time preparing students for the carnival during our weekly sessions at the pool. This preparation builds confidence in our students and ensures they are nominated to swim in events that they are capable of swimming at our carnival. I look forward to having all students participate in our carnival this year as it is always a fun day had by all.

If for any reason your child is not attending the carnival, please let me know as soon as possible to ensure adjustments can be made to carnival planning, as this assists with a much smoother run carnival on the day.

Southern Zone Sports Awards

The 2024 Southern Zone Sports Awards night is being held on Monday the 13th of November at Tully State High School. Students who have represented our District in sport throughout the year will be invited to attend this night. Invitations will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Book Fair is coming to the School Library
from Monday October 23^rd to Friday 27^th 2023

Scholastic Book Fair is the perfect place for children
to discover a love of books and ignite a lifelong
passion for reading.

Come into the library and browse with your
your child to select some possible choices.
Have fun choosing books together!

You are invited to purchase and donate a book
which will make a welcome addition to the
School Library, a commemorative bookplate will
be placed inside the book with your family or
child’s name.

There will be a competition running during the Book Fair.
When you buy a book/s your child will go into a draw for a free
book of their choice from the book fair.
Every book sold receives a free ticket, drawn after
the Book Fair closes.
It is also a great time to buy for Christmas gift giving.

Today your child will receive a brochure, instructions
on the back of the brochure for online purchasing.
We can no longer accept credit card
payments on site. Online payments to be made
before receiving books from the fair.
Cash payments are accepted on the day you visit
the bookfair.

Dear Families

The P&F Committee would like to thank the families of St Clare's School and the wider community for such a successful 2023 fete. We would also like to acknowledge all involved in any way, big or small, in helping this event not only take place but be another successful fundraiser for our school.

The P&F are continuously allocating P&F funds to make our school a better place for our students and families by either purchasing items for the school or helping fund school activities, such as bus fees for school camps. Any family member can contribute to the P&F decisions by either attending our monthly meetings or contacting a committee member. Our meeting dates are listed on the St Clare's P&F facebook page and in the school's newsletter.

We have some exciting events coming up this term which are traditionally hosted by the P&F. These events are the waterslide day for the students to enjoy, and the End of Year BBQ/Christmas Concert for all families to enjoy. As these events are for the benefit of our students and families, P&F are looking for volunteers to take on the running of the End of Year BBQ. This event cannot continue if we don't have volunteers to both organise catering before the night and on the night. Catering consists of a simple BBQ, chips and chicken nuggets as well as soft drinks. The P&F like to run this event without the goal of making a profit but instead, to make it an affordable night for families to enjoy each others company (and not have to cook dinner) and the student's Christmas Concert. P&F committee member, Marie Vipiana, has organised this event over the past few years and is wanting to hand over the ropes to a new volunteer, family or team of volunteers. Please reach out if you have any questions about helping out in this area. The P&F committee will also be of assistance to our new volunteer/s.

The St Clare's P&F are looking for a new treasurer and secretary for 2024. If you are interested or would like to know more about these positions please contact President, John Clifford on 0438665571.

The fete committee are also after some new recruits. As mentioned above, the fete is a very successful fundraising event of our school that is hosted by the school's P&F committee. Please contact Marie Vipiana on 0418158872 or Melissa Murphy on 0448841066 if you are interested in being apart of this committee.

For those that aren't aware, St Clare's has a uniform 'Buy/Swap/Sell page on facebook. This page is a great way to sell/pass on uniforms that no longer fit your child/ren, especially if they are still in good condition. It is called St Clare's (Tully) Uniform Buy/Swap/Sell.

Our next P&F meeting will be held on the 21st November 2023. All families are automatically apart of the school's P&F committee and are welcome to attend.

Thank you to all the Grandfriends that attended our Under 8's Day and Year 2 Prayer Assembly last Friday. The morning was a huge success with lots of Grandfriends attending and playing games with their Grand-student. It was delightful to see all the smiling faces as young and old joined together to build, paint, craft, dig and play.

A special thanks to Mrs Vipiana and Mrs Grimaz for their tasty contributions and for making the "thank you picnic pack." It was a real treat to end the morning with a picnic.

Thank you to my fellow colleagues- Mrs Collins, Ms Sima, Mrs Colombini, Mrs Grimaz and Miss Johnson for your help and set up on the day.

Year 2 Teacher

Congratulations to our Year 2 students who have been selected as the winning entrants from Queensland in the How Cool is Your School? mapping competition run by SheMaps. The students were challenged to work out how much green shady space we have from trees in our school, and to produce hand-drawn maps following mapping conventions. These hardworking students have won our school a classroom drone kit plus a She Maps Classroom Drone Essentials Pack, valued at over $3089, thanks to sponsors Bennett & Bennett. This will allow five of our teachers to undertake professional development in 2024, bringing more opportunities for our students to engage in STEM learning working with drones and online mapping tools.

Thank you to Mrs Irvine and Ms Moloney for supporting the students to enter this competition!

Welcome to Term 4, Just a few reminders, please make sure when you place the order that it has gone through, you can do this by checking you have received a confirmation email. If your child places their OWN order, can you PLEASE check what he/she is doing, that the correct date has been selected and that the order has gone through.

We only have 8 weeks of Tuckshop this term, then we will have a special menu for the swimming carnival and no tuckshop the last day of Term.
