Dear St Clare's Community,
Not only are we halfway through Term 3, but we have reached FETE WEEK. With the Fete being held a little earlier this year it has come around very quickly. As always, the staff and students have been putting in extra time and effort to polish their performances and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us this year. A huge amount of work has been going on in the lead up to the fete and we sincerely thank all those involved as it could not be done without all the donations and volunteering of time from our parent community. I look forward to seeing you all there on Saturday to celebrate the St. Clare’s community and all things Disney!
Unfortunately I was unable to attend the Principal’s Conference in person last week due to Covid. It does seem that the immediate impact of Covid on absences is lessening for us at St. Clare’s and we are hopeful this trend will continue. Thank you for the part you are playing in this, by keeping students at home if they are unwell, reminding your children of good hygiene and handwashing practices and notifying the school when a positive case occurs. We will continue to take measures at school to help minimise the spread as much as possible. A reminder that if your child is not able to attend school, for any reason, to please notify the office, either by phone, email or the Skoolbag app.
PROPOSED BUILDING PROJECT
The P&F and I have been in the initial stages of talks with the Building & Projects team at Cairns Catholic Education to look at the feasibility of upgrading our student amenities, small upgrade to the tuckshop and building a multi-purpose classroom. We have a draft plan which I shared at the last P&F meeting. Our next P&F meeting is Tuesday 13th September (5 pm) and I am happy to go over these initial plans again if anyone is interested.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that Friday 2nd September is a Pupil Free Day. All of our staff will be involved in professional learning for the day.
Blessings for the weeks ahead.

Welcome Community Hospitality
This Wednesday is a significant day for the members of the St Clare’s community as we celebrate the Feast Day for St Clare of Montefalco. Hailing from Italy, Clare devoted her life to prayer from a very young age, even falling to her knees some nights to recite the Lord’s prayer. She always knew that she wanted to have the closest possible relationship to God and in turn, joined a monastery under the rule of St Augustine. By the time she was 30 years old, she became the leader of nuns at her monastery but was still dedicated to serve, helping those ill or in need and continuing her devotion to prayer and meditation. It was said that her passion for Christ was so strong that her heart was filled with a love of the Cross. After a brief illness, Clare passed peacefully at the age of 40 and it was discovered that she did indeed have a cross inscribed on her heart, which was declared a miracle. ‘The life of the soul is the love of God. In my heart I have found a place for my cross. My Jesus is in my heart. My heart bears his cross.’
Our parish community is invited to St Clare’s Feast Day Mass on Wednesday August 17 at 10am in the church. Our students will also celebrate this day with a cake at morning tea.
St Clare,
Our patron saint, You lived a prayerful life,
Please guide each and every one of us at St Clare’s Parish,
To be inspired by you and to think and take time to pray for the needs of our community.
We ask that you be with us as we continue our journey together.
Amen
With Blessings
Sharon Chappel

NAIDOC Day Celebrations
NAIDOC Week was celebrated nationally during the last school holidays. St. Clare’s will have their own NAIDOC celebrations on Friday 26th August, in conjunction with book week activities. The theme for this year is Get up, Stand Up, Show Up. Students will complete a variety of hands-on activities throughout the day and will even be treated to a dancing performance from some of our local high school students. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

We are excitedly working on the second issue of “The Heart” magazine. It is anticipated that the second issue will be ready for reading by the end of the term. There will be the next chapter of stories written by Amber and Ashton. Blair H is working on some Waste Free Wednesday information and a netball article. Evie is developing questions to interview a couple of teachers and is excited to put together some information on the History of St Clare’s and Jonah and William are excitedly working on a science experiment that can be done at home using household items! Stay tuned!
Poetry Recital
Over the last 2 weeks, I have had the privilege to visit Prep, Year 2, 3, 4 and 6 to listen to some students recite a poem to their class. Students have participated eagerly and have done a wonderful job. I was really impressed with a couple of students that wrote their own poems. I will be visiting Year 1 and 5 in Week 6 to hear these students recite their poems. Students that have participated are to be congratulated on their efforts and confidence to stand up and speak in front of a large group of people. Well done.
Poetry Recital will be held in St Clare’s School Hall on Monday 22nd August at 2pm! Hope to see you there!
Public Speaking Competition
It seems a distant memory when 41 eager students participated in the St Clare’s Public Speaking Competition but we can finally announce that in Week 9 on Tuesday the 6th of September, some Year 5 and 6 students from St Rita’s in South Johnstone will be coming to St Clare’s to participate in an interschool public speaking competition. The three winners from the Senior Competition- Amber, Sophie and Evie, will represent St Clare’s. We wish them all the best for the competition.
Don't forget to add it to your diary- Tuesday 6th September at 9.30am to come and watch these students present their speeches on the Greatest Invention of All Time.
