St Clare’s Cross Country
We will advise all parents on Thursday if our plans for the cross country this Friday change. We do have a wet week forecast ahead of us and safety of our students is our priority. Keep praying for some sun later this week!
New reading books for students
We have recently purchased new home readers for students through the generous support of our P & F. Our library is overflowing with new books in need of being covered. If you can assist either in the library or by taking some home, please see Vera Borgna in the library this week. The sooner the books are processed the sooner students get to enjoy using them!
This year, our term concludes two weeks before Easter. We are aware that sometimes classmates bring in treats for their friends and students will be asked to take these home and enjoy them on Easter Sunday. We respect the holy days leading up to Easter and recommend holding off on eating the treats until then.
During the holidays we will remember the key events leading up to our great Easter celebrations. Palm (or Passion) Sunday is when Jesus arrived to a hero’s welcome into Jerusalem. In a matter of days he was having his Last Supper with his disciples before praying in the garden, being betrayed by Judas. Jesus was then arrested, had his friendship denied by Peter and then sentenced to be crucified. On the last weekend of our school holidays we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection – possibly the most important tradition in the Church’s calendar. I encourage you to take your families to the Easter rituals in St Clare’s Parish. I pray for all families that the peace of the Risen Lord may bring you renewed strength for the challenges that life may bring. Knowing the Risen Lord walks with us should give us confidence to trust in Him.
We look forward to celebrating with our school community at the commencement of term two. Please join us for our Easter Mass on Wednesday April 24th.
Wishing all staff, students and families a happy and holy Easter break. Enjoy your special family time and stay safe.

Catholic Identity Survey
Thank you again to all families who have completed their Catholic Identity Survey. Congratulations to Marie Vipiana for winning the final draw for the movie tickets. The survey will close on Friday, 26th April and we value the responses of all parents. Please complete the survey if you can.
Fifth Week of Lent – 100% Love
Salma was featured in Project Compassion 2013. At the time she was pregnant with her first child, sick and terribly frightened. In distress, she sought the help of a midwife trained by Caritas’ Safe Motherhood Program. Six years on, she’s now a healthy mother of two strong, happy children. Salma is committed to giving her children the education they need to provide them with the future she hoped for.
We thank all in the school community who have supported Project Compassion throughout Lent 2019. We are still tallying our fundraising efforts and will advise the total amount raised early in Term 2.
Holy Week
Holy Week is the most important week in the Church's year. It begins on Palm Sunday, 14th April and ends on Easter Saturday evening, 20th April when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
Easter Triduum
Triduum is a Latin word that means three days. The Easter Triduum is the three days of prayer leading to Easter.
The Easter Triduum begins the evening of Holy Thursday, 18th April and ends on Easter Sunday, 21st April. Good Friday, 19th April and Holy Saturday, 20th April are part of the Easter Triduum.
The Easter Triduum recalls the passion, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. It ends the season of Lent and begins the Easter season.
A Day of Waiting
We know that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. Therefore, Easter Saturday is a day during which we wait in quiet thought and prayer for the resurrection.
In some countries, people cook different foods on Easter Saturday. They are preparing for the celebration on Easter Sunday. In some countries people prepare Easter baskets. They fill them with food.
In Australia, families often prepare Easter baskets full of chocolate eggs. The eggs represent new life.
Some families make resurrection rolls. They wrap a marshmallow in dough. Then they bake it in the oven. The marshmallow melts, leaving a hole in the roll. When the roll is broken they see an empty hole in the roll. That hole represents the empty tomb. Jesus has risen!

Pray…
“Holy Spirit, quiet my heart and help me to read Scripture with new ears. Let your revelation guide me to become more like Jesus”.
We wish you all a blessed, safe and enjoyable Easter break and look forward to seeing you all back refreshed for Term 2.

Cross Country
Our Cross Country will be held this Friday 5th April which is our last day of school. We will start with our 12yr old students at around 9 am and work our way down each age group of boys and girls to our 5yr old students. This format allows our older students, running a considerable distance, to compete at a cooler time while also giving our younger students an opportunity to settle in and watch a couple of races before their turn.
12yr (2007) and 11yr (2008) students run approx 3km.
10yr (2009) and 9yr (2010) students run approx 2km.
8yr (2011) and 7yr (2012) students run approx 1km.
6yr (2013) and 5yr (2014) students run approx 500m.
Students wear a Woomera (yellow) or Cooby (blue) shirt along with shorts or tights. Shoes must be worn while running. Asthmatics are required to carry medication in a pocket. Sunscreen and hats must be worn. A towel, spare clothes/shoes, a plastic bag and mosquito repellent are recommended, particularly if the weather is wet.
Usually the running is finished at around 11am and we go to the Montefalco for presentations.
Children placing 1st-3rd comfortably, will be invited to compete at the Cassowary Coast School Sport Cross Country at Warrina Lakes on 9th May 2019.
Athletics
Our St. Clare’s Athletics’ Carnival will take place on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd May. Thursday’s events will commence with the 200m heats at 11:20am and move on to 2 field event rotations before concluding with the 400m (8yrs) and 800m (9-12yr) events.
Friday’s events will include the 200m finals, sprints, relays, 3 x field event rotations and conclude with ball-games.

We have had a huge term of sport and would like to thank our wonderful parents for all the fantastic support given to our students by providing transport, volunteering in canteens, running water, coaching, managing, setting up and packing down.
